Anyone Get the Super Moon?

If that is the case, I think that may be reversed for the Southern Hemisphere. I'm kinda only guessing here. Anyone know what the GO is for real??

Here is my attempt on D7100 w/ 70-300VR.

Love the texture you've captured Wilkster! I have a D7100 and have been mulling over getting a 70-300 (or 70-200 or similar), looks good! What's the metadata for your shot? I assume you were at max zoom (300mm)?

:)

I took these at about 5am on 24th June/13. Both are magnified to about 100%.

First one handheld D7100, 70-300VR @300mm, f9 , 1/1250 sec, ISO 200

This one was taken with the same settings, but was taken @220mm, to see if it looked any different.
I think I'll stick to 300 for moon shots.

Great shots Ironwood! See my comments re: Wilkster above - I see you have the same lens! :)

I was a day or two early (22 June in NZ) - and was busy the night of the actual 'Super Moon' so didn't get a chance to redo it properly with a tripod on the actual night. So pretty average I'm afraid... It was a drizzly misty night, and I shot it hand held (and I don't have very steady hands, even braced against a fence post!)...

Thanks Mycenius, I did take a number of shots and this one was the best. I just recently got the lens myself and am very impressed on how well it performs for a non-pro lens. Highly recommended.

Just as a matter of interest because of the discussion about the moon looking different, I compared these shots.

The first one taken at 7.30pm 22nd June, the second taken at 5am 24th June.

I can only assume from these that it does rotate some, or at least our view of it changes as it moves across the sky.

Perfect. i wanted to do this but my organizational skills are quite challenged so the task of diving in through all those moon shots was not very inviting :)
Thanks for posting...

My guess is that relative to the shooter's position, the moon changes 180 degree between dusk & dawn.
And the angle you get to see depends on which part of the moon we see...
Eureka ;)

But who gets to see the dark side of the moon???

The 70-300VR is a very nice lens, I like it a lot.

Thanks Guys. Good to hear good feedback - I'm seriously considering either the Nikon or Tamron as a new purchase (that won't break the bank) in the near future, to be my primary zoom to take over from my long-serving 18-200mm, now I have my 11-16mm & 17mm-55mm for my wide angle & mid-range shooting... So am keen to hear any feedback from people using either brand of zoom... Although I am still tempted by a 70-200mm f/4 (albeit at 3 tiem steh price)!

This is what I could get with a mono-pod before the rain set in.
