This is a good point. As much as @wev uses the long lens, I would definitely recommend going with the 200-500mm if he could get enough for the Tammy without losing too much. I'm not trying to be a fanboy of the Nikon 200-500mm lens, but it is truly an awesome lens. I use to love shooting flowers and butterflies with my 70-300mm but this really blows it out of the water focus and IQ wise. Not to mention bird and BIF shots.

I don't know about the Sigma so I can't comment on it.

My money would go on the 200-500,hell even you get great results :D i just get the feeling wev uses his lens more than most of us would, what is the warranty period for Nikon over there.

Well, the new Tam is boxed up for a trip back east. For the last week I have been seeing the same symptoms as before: sticking aperture, focus hunting and lockups, soft images, etc.
I broached the idea of a trade in + cash for the new version and they did not sound adverse to the idea -- pretty sure they want to see the last of me.

My wife says I've pissed off the gods and they're just taking revenge.

Hopefully the new version corrects the challenges you've seen. I wonder if we're about to see a flood of 1st generation lenses on the used market with people moving to the G2...

Good luck WEV. I hope you get a decent deal towards the new version and it solves your issues. Following your trials, I am very glad I made the decision to go with the Sigma 150-600 mm which has worked great from the first day.
