When I got my 50mm I was trying to hide it from my wife. Then I did a major stupid thing!
I posted pics on G+ to the D3100 community, that I was trying out my new lens.
Next thing I know, she's like, did you just get another lens?.

I have the 105 macro and just absolutely love it. It's a heavyish bit of gear tho, and I struggle to hold it still enough, but I still manage some OK shots (OK for my level of macro at least )

If you can't use a tripod, make sure you're using a fast enough shutter speed to increase the chance of sharp images.

I use flash, and it's not HSS, so the best I can do is 1/320.

The flash duration is less than 1ms so if the flash is much more powerful than ambient light you will get the effect of shooting at 1/1000 or faster.
