Had to send it in to have it checked out. Focus issues and focus ring issues. Hoping this does not cost me a fortune. I sent it to KEH. Anyone else ever had to send this lens in for work?

I'm assuming you mean the 70-200mm VR1? If so I own one. Love this lense but the zoom ring on mine is very slightly sticky on the zoom end. It also vignets on my D3s but not when using a teleconverter. Been looking to get rid of it and get the VR11. Just haven't found a decent deal.

Yep. VRI. I use it on my D3 and you are right, it does vignette on the edges. I correct that in Lightroom if needed though. Eventually I will get a VRII, but it may be cheaper for me to just go this route for a little while.

Hey Whiskeyman, if your interested in buying a used lense. Mine is for sale for the right price. Its in excellent condition other than the zoom ring issue which has been like that since I bought it used.

Thank you, FastGlass. It's so tempting, but I must decline due to both of my children living at home now having their own set of bagpipes, courtesy of my bank account! I'm going to be eating Ramen noodles at work again! On the plus side, they've used loaner sets for about two years now and can play really well.

Thanks again.

Well I emailed them again yesterday and after some back and forth this is the email that I was forced to send them...

I was reviewing all of this, and I have to say I am rather upset that KEH one, does not list on their site that they cannot address soft focus issues, had I known that I would not have spent $65 to ship it to you. Now I will have to spend the same amount to ship it to Nikon when I get it back. Secondly, KEH had the lens for two weeks I believe it was, and I am the one that has to follow up with an email to find out that the lens issues cannot be addressed there. Third, I get told that shipping only happens in the morning and now if I want my lens shipped back to me it’s another day of waiting.
I would like my lens shipped back to me immediately, and I would appreciate it shipped back next day air. I think that’s the least that can be done. This whole issue could have been avoided with the proper information provided to your customers up front. Had I shipped to Nikon directly, I could have already had a quote for repairs. I sent my lens to KEH since I had heard great things and a fellow photographer sent his lens to you last year and it was less than a 3 week turnaround.
While I understand that the focus issue with his lens, since it’s not a 2.8 lens may take less time, these time frames are not acceptable. How long would it have been if I wouldn’t have sent an email today? Another 3-4 maybe 5 days? And then add that to the shipping time, estimate time, and repair time?
Do you feel that I should have to wait up to 8 weeks to get a professional lens back? I understand that there is nothing that can be done in regards to Nikon’s repair times, but it also should not have taken three days to get to the repair dept once KEH received it.
Please ship my lens back to me either today or tomorrow with a full tracking number.

After sending the email I was contacted within an hour with some options for resolution. Full resolution should be on my doorstep on Friday. Will let you know for sure.

UPDATE
Apparently I got someone's attention at Nikon with my Twitter rant yesterday, because today Nikon USA responded and told me to have KEH contact them immediately. Contacted KEH and stated that Nikon wants them to contact Nikon to assist in resolving this issue.
Guess we shall see what happens.

Who was the Nikon USA person that contacted you?

SOLUTION:

So this is the deal. KEH doesn't have the ability to address soft focus issues etc on the 70-200 2.8 lens. After two weeks I find this out because I emailed them. Anyways, all the back information is in previous posts.
KEH offered two options: One they will give me a lens to use til mine were to get back from Nikon (Not thrilled about that idea incase anything happens to the lens) and the second option is that they would swap my lens for one in their inventory for the cost of the flat rate repair $230.00
I went with option 2 for a couple of reason's, one I wanted my own lens and two it may have cost more than $230 to repair mine. So I get an email yesterday from KEH, they were going to overnight me an E+ 70-200 2.8 VRI W/6 month warranty. Should be at the house when I get home. I will let you know when I test it out how it is.
