70-200 Nikkor - tracking dragonflies

Spent a recent afternoon at Perth's Kings Park the other day, wanting to see how I would fare snapping dragonflies. You need plenty of patience and be prepared to ignore a potential audience watching you wave your camera around like some neurotic basket case. Forget employing your autofocus, I found it easier to have the D3S - 70-200 on Manual setting. The early shots were woeful before you find your rhythm and worked out how dragonflies behave. I have attached one here and would luv some feedback.

This particular snap is quite sharp Scott. It's a buzz when you achieve what you set out to do, even if there was a fair amount of hit and miss. Good fun tho!

Haha yes I have managed a few in flight with my 80-400, but haven't tried the 70-200 2.8 might try tomorrow.

I imagine shooting those tiny things with the 200mm focal length can be quite challenging. I saved your pic on my computer, and as soon as I hit the zoom it started getting grainy. You must have cropped the heck out of it or uploaded a small version.
I bet it would be tough to try and fill the frame with even a 600mm with a teleconverter on it.

I applaud your effort sir!
