Now moving my 40GB Catalogue
Change of mind as LR will not use a catalogue on a network. So I am moving it to my Dropbox folder where I can point my laptops to.
Now with this extra storage I am going to 'try' and sort out my filing system and LR... Does anyone have a suggestion on which is the best way to do this when using a NAS system? I am currently transferring all my photos and most Data to the 3TB HDD on the NAS, and I will be adding drives as I get them.
Yes I am hoping for a remote / offsite copy of the catalogue, all my RAW files will be kept on my NAS but with LR's smart preview I can make changes etc anywhere and it will be done on the original if I need to keep those changes. Are you maintaining a remote or offsite copy too? I use Backblaze to accomlish this.
Well my 4 Bay NAS arrived today and I have just set it up.
Wasn't too hard although I could not find it by connecting it to the modem so had to connect direct to my iMac and share its ethernet port as internet.
But all in all it was very straight forward and I now have 3TB on a Gigabit connection where all my photos will be stored, later I will get more HDD's and then have a full 4 x 3TB HDD's running. This will allow for easy backups etc.
I am now transferring my data from my mac's folders, 600GB is going to take around 3hrs.
I am using X-Raid.What RAID configuration are you using with your NAS? RAID 0 can leave you in a bad way in the unfortunate event of a failure.
