If you follow the line of Orion's belt, to the left, it will point to an unusually bright star. Outside of anything in our own solar system, this star is the brightest thing in our night sky.
It's important that you never make fun of this star, never make jokes about it, or otherwise treat it frivolously. It's Sirius.
