    Photo Shooting Tent

Size depends on what you intend to photograph inside. I mainly use mine for photographing wristwatches in my collection. Speaking from my own experience, I now use the black semi-rigid type cube with the silver reflective interior and LED lights. My own studio allows you to adjust the position...

    Tamron 150-600 G1 replacement

I have only had the Sigma of the 3. Personally I like the lens a lot. I have no doubt the Nikon lens would focus faster, better. I cannot imagine a noticeably more sharp lens at the extreme zoom end (and do we ever use the wider settings?). I certainly have had mine out for astrophotography more...

    What has disappointed you?

In 2018 I was at a crossroads with my tripod and head situation. I had just broken a leg on my Sunpak carbon fiber tripod with pistol grip. I was finding the pistol grip head did not have nearly enough load capacity for my newly acquired Sigma 150-600mm. Sunpak repaired the tripod under...

I'm back in the infrared photography game.

I shopped at my local camera shop yesterday for a cheap zoom lens. Had a Benjamin in my pocket and came home with a used Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5D. Basically a 20 year old kit lens, but I think it will fill the bill for my infrared work. It's mostly outdoors in sunlight. From lunch today at a...

I'm back in the infrared photography game.

Not one of my best photos from the lunch at the bridge park, but a good one to try the 3 common ways to adjust the color on a 720nm infrared. I have tended to just prefer to leave the color as-is when the white balance is properly referenced to the green foliage. I will use the WB eyedropper...

Still from the park with the bridge.

I'm back in the infrared photography game.

I have shot this scene before with fall colors. It works either way.

I'm back in the infrared photography game.

I cannot take a new photo daily, but I may be able to post a new photo daily for a while. Sunshine helps with this IR work.

I'm back in the infrared photography game.

Here are some more early shots. When first arrived, KEH had the camera reset to factory. This being the 2nd image from my front yard after I fitted my 24-120mm f/4 lens. For the 2nd photo I quickly aimed to the grass, took a WB preset sample, and took another photo. 2 days later due to bad...

I'm back in the infrared photography game.

Landed 2 days ago, a used D600 already converted to 720nm infrared. Been shopping and scheming for 10 months since my IR-converted D80 died of 'ERR'. From a disabled-accessible county park today in Madison, WI

    Happy US Independence Day!

And be careful not to blow off your shutter-release finger handling fireworks! Or anything else for that matter.

    infra red on the cheap

Lucien, the 720nm filter will allow deep red light in. If you photograph an American flag, it would be faded red and white stripes with a gray star union. And I have done that photo. Red tail lights show perfectly red. Skies have a bit of red mixed in the color and become sort of bronze. Having...

    Post your flower pics

Was exploring flora and fauna in my backyard today. Apparently the fauna did not like the heat.

    Post your Cloudscape Photos

How did I miss this thread last year? I was taking cloud photos all over the place while I had a working infrared D80. Clouds look awesome in infrared!

    issues with this lens

Whoa, shooting macro handheld with no flash?!? You are guaranteed to have DOF problems. It only takes a couple of millimeters of forward motion after locking focus to throw it off. Most macro work is done with tripods for just that reason. Also, I used a D7000 prior to getting my D750, so I...

    issues with this lens

I have this lens. I even did some macro work today with one of my watch collection. But one thing I can share is that I have to have the aperture out at f/16 to give enough depth of field for an entire watch dial that is sitting angled to the lens. That is what I am seeing wrong in your photos...

    500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor

In 2018 a few months after buying my Sigma lens, I tried a fairly direct comparison of moon images. Same night, same setup, changed lenses. I even dialed the Sigma back to 500mm for a more fair comparison. I reprocessed a bit with the current version of RawTherapee and left the final photos...

    500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor

OK, I dug in my photo editing PC and here are my sample Nikkor 500mm reflex photos. Old stuff with a D80 and D7000 bodies so 750mm effective view. I removed crops and re-processed with my current version of RawTherapee.

    Editing Fog Photos

OK, here is my quick attempt at it with GIMP. I duplicated the image as a 2nd layer and made a 3rd layer that I desaturated to monochrome and copied that to use as a layer mask for the 2nd layer. The variable is how much contrast you add to the layer mask, then reduce the contrast of the upper...
