The way to take a long exposure handheld without a ND filter is to take multiple short exposures and stack them. This is what the app is doing. I have attempted this once with my Lumix compact camera when it was my only camera in car. It works, but not ideal.

I found this today. It is a command-line open-source utility that will convert an image file like a JPEG or other into a Nikon NEF lossless compressed 14 bit file. Documentation shows me it it not very user-friendly, but it's a beginning. Documentation Github download

You can have a crop-frame mirrorless also if you prefer that (Z50 or Z50II). Personally I cannot recommend picking up any F-mount cameras unless you have a specific need for an optical viewfinder. The support from Nikon is ending and all the improvements in features that have gone into 7 years...

I would wager the K&F battery will be fine until it is tried out at some future time in a Z50III. That appears to be the pattern. Then the aftermarket makers clone a new controller chip, and that works until the next new camera....
