    Even I found that the 18-55VR-II supplied with my D3300 is an excellent lense. As you have pointed out the 50mm F1.8 is slightly sharper, but the VR helps a lot with handheld shots. At the wide end it is excellent, but at the long end it is a bit softer, and of course f5.6. Here is a shot at...
