Took it for a test drive today - caught a few Yellow Finches, but I'm afraid these things are fattening. . . . when you take a bag of cookies and thermos of coffee to keep warm inside. This birding is a patience building project I'm finding.

Not "latest" in that it was purchased a few months ago - but finally got it out of the box and put up. A "Dog House" hunter's blind to hide from the birdies in the backyard. (it does pop-up and comes with a big round carrying bag to make it portable.

    Post your 'ALMOST' Photos..

This one doesn't even make the 'almost' grade - it is just a funny fail. Looked to see if there was a panoramic fails collection but didn't find any. Zoner Stitcher fails me on this batch. Didn't stitch any of my groups of rainbow pics into a nice arch. Just saw the bright rainbow, ran...

    Life in Scotland

Thanks for the memories When we went to Scotland I figured I would only tackle one new driving trick - using the other side of the road - and not add remembering how to drive a standard shift. Automatic cars for rent were few and far between. Found one on line from an independent operator - I...

    Insects with non macro lenses

Bugs with a telephoto/zoom - on a FX body - not the most idea combination - but one uses what one has in one's hands eh? Here is the full size of that image Part of my "Day One" shoot with my new Tamron 70-300 VC on a D610.

Look what was at the Pharmacy today (that's where us country folk now get our mail). My new drug of choice - a Tamron 70-300 VC SP F/4-5.6. Had to mount it onto the 610 and run outside and snap some pic of whatever I saw. Will post more in more appropriate places - but since there is no...

    Post your Tree Photos !

We went for a walk in the woods today. Always on the look out for something interesting to photograph. A bit of moss in the light, some nice fungi, or Maybe a kid up a tree? Oh that explains it

    Post your Squirrel pictures

I'm thinking of adding a Tamron 70-300 VC to my lens collection and retiring my old Siggy 100-300mm and vintage push pull Nikkor 70-210mm. So I thought I'd take it out for a walk just to see what it can do. My birding efforts and many other fails are helping to pry open the wallet and get the...

Post your Photos of old Photography Gear

Vintage, antique, equipment from a by-gone era, call it what you like. Lets see some pictures of old gear. I do not have much of a collection but I'll post what I've got. Simple idea - if it could take a picture (or make a movie) then post it. You can decide how "old" it has to be to be...

    Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC Test

I've had my Tamron 24-70 VC a couple of weeks now and have really come to love it. Back in April I had bought a used Nikkor 28-70 2.8 that I found at The Camera Store while in Calgary and since I was on a week's vacation was taking a lot of photos (as in about 1,000) but on my last full day in...

Looking a at a tree a little differently thorough my new Lensbaby Fisheye So looking forward so some green in the backyard - tree leaves are just opening up this week. Oh I am so done with winter. But forecast still shows a few days below zero yet before we can plant the garden.

    Post your fisheye images

And now for some Artsy Funsy Photos - playing in the backyard with a fisheye and then post production fun in Corel's Paintshop Pro - trying to "see in a new way" as the Lensbaby promo line goes.

FX vs DX right from the camera Notice that you lose the bottom and top of the halo in DX NOW these are both shot on a D610 FX camera - one in FX mode one in DX mode. I will mount this lens on my D5100 when I get it back from my daughter after her trip to Newfoundland.
