Grand Canyon as it's not normally seen (or would that be "unseen"?)

I have to imagine that had I planned a trip to "see" the Grand Canyon and encountered this I would have been rather disappointed. And yet, to be able to photograph this rare anomaly would be rather cool. Rare Temperature Inversion Creates River of Clouds Inside the Grand Canyon | Colossal

    Hot Pixels On Long Exposures

I know of no "automatic fix" in Lightroom for noise, and I wouldn't expect or want it as I'd want to be able to adjust for noise on a photo by photo basis. They do have both Color and Luminance Noise adjustment sliders. According to the EXIF data this is a 923 second exposure. That's a LONG...

    Editing.

I tend not to like to edit low res jpegs as I don't have a lot of light information to work with, but here goes. 1. Adjusted light levels in PS (ctrl-l and tweak) 2. Used Nik Viveza 2 to adjust the following using control points (selected area editing): a. Added structure to the whites in...

    Pointy Ledge

Without using the star system, I like it a lot, but can't say I love it. Here are some of the things I see. 1. The ledge isn't sharp. Maybe it's just my eyes, but it looks like there is either lens distortion or camera movement and all the crags in it amplify that lack of sharpness. 2. The...

    Should I Photoshop or not?

Do I think it needs Photoshop? No. Do I think it could use a little more post processing? Sure. It's an extremely nice photo, but I find the unevenness of the light on the flower to be distracting, particularly the shadow on the lower petal. I used Elements 9 to do very minor brightness...

How to get rid of eye reflections

Yep - careful editing in PS and using a polarizer can help, but not always. It's not always possible to eliminate them, but you can lighten them fairly easily and reduce the distraction.

Attention D5300 owners with Sigma glass

Just curious, @Millie, but have you contacted either Sigma or Nikon about this to see if it's a known issue or possibly just something with your lenses or camera?

Since we're talking Sigma, a Customer Service story

I mentioned this in another post, but I thought I'd lay it all out here. I'm a big fan of Sigma lenses, and while I know some have had issues with their customer service department, my lone experience with them when my 150-500mm broke was extremely good with them repairing and returning my lens...

I saw Comet ISON ... sorta

I finally got a crystal clear morning and went to a spot that had the tallest and clearest view of the eastern sky. Brought my 150-500mm, which isn't the brightest thing out there, nor the sharpest wide open, but this comet isn't the biggest. With the naked eye and even with binoculars there...

    Experiences Buying Nikon Refurbished Lenses?

I just got my refurb 24-120mm delivered last night and I was surprised to see that the normal 5 year warranty card was in the box with it. I would have thought that a refurb lens coming from Nikon would not have included this paperwork, but it was wrapped up just like every other brand new...

Attention D5300 owners with Sigma glass

Saw this today. Apparently there's a compatibility issue between the two that Sigma has fixed, but it'll take some hoop jumping to get them to work. To Fix AF Issue With Nikon D5300 Sigma Will Release Firmware Upgrade - The Phoblographer If I had this camera and was considering a Sigma lens...

What to do with skies that don't quite work

I happened to bounce over to the Nik Google+ page today and saw this photo posted there... (c) Suzanne Haggarty ... and I was very taken by it. I was also perplexed by what I saw in the skies and the foreground and how it was produced while not losing the detail in waves. I wandered over to...

Paris Newspaper Removes All Photos From One Issue

I may complain about the French at times (though not here), but they sure know how to make a statement. French Newspaper ‘Liberation’ Removes All Images In Support Of Photographers I love how they left the holes where the photos would be, and then offered a look at the same paper with only the...

    D600 worse than ever

One of our members here, @hark, had similar experiences and eventually got Nikon to credit her D600 purchase price towards a D610. Perhaps you can try that route. As someone who has a D600 that is, or at least appears to be working properly I can vouch for the camera it's supposed to be, so if...

    Truth In Photography

The advent of Photoshop has made it possible to create images that the viewer can marvel at, while never really knowing whether or not they were actually captured that way. Personally, I have no issue with extreme image manipulation, provided that it's never passed off as if it came out of the...
