5 Day Black & White Challenge

Note - Change in rules effective immediately - Only Nominate One Person OK, there's this thing going around on Facebook where photographers are challenging someone to post a B&W picture every day for 5 days. The idea is that most of us almost never think to shoot in B&W, and it's a medium that...

The 14mm end of your 14-24mm gives a reported 114 degrees of view, as opposed to the 180 degrees on the Sigma fisheye. Now, with yours it's left to right, not on the diagonal, because the lens elements straighten the pincushion distortion - for the most part at least. Lightroom allows me to do...

    XUME Magnetic Filter Mounts

I saw these when I was at the Photoplus Expo... Home Page Very simply idea - one ring mounts on the lens, one on the filter, magnets hold them together making it incredibly easy to pop the filter off and, if you want, put a different one on. For someone like me who likes to use a 9-stop ND...

Some shots of my Buddy's Cigar shop

Great shots. Agree that the WB is off. I like to use the Neutral Tone eyedropper in a PS Levels Adjustment to deal with WB when I can't quite get it. LR is good most of the time. Yours is on top.

    Work portrait

As said, give yourself some room on top. I also find that the full body pose is rather, um, too much body for a portrait. As for the lighting, I do think it's a little lacking in fill from the right. Don't know if you have the Nik Collection, but I just threw this in and pulled up Reflector...

    Canon 7D Mkii DxOMark Scores

I was very surprised no one was talking about this here, and I feel strange posting it because I've gone on the record many times about how these scores are really one, and only one measure of what a camera is capable of, and not a measure of real world worth. That said, when the long awaited...

Is there an easy way to message mods?

Just curious, is there an easy way to send a broadcast message to moderators? I'm not talking about for reporting posts or something similar, but simply to ask a question that doesn't need to be (or should be) posted publicly? I thought I was pointed to either an ID I could PM that would then...

DST Reminder - Change Your Camera Clock

I got bit by this on a photo walk last year, and meant to post it Sunday, but if you haven't changed your cameras' clock (or if it hasn't changed automatically for you) it's time to adjust for no more DST.

$300 Price Drop on the Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro

I have and love this lens. It was worth what I paid for it when I got it, but it's a steal now at $669, which may explain why it's back-ordered everywhere. But, if you're looking for a macro and can't wait for it to come back in stock, I'd consider jumping on this. 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM...

    Lake Photo - Any suggestions?

I don't mind the 50/50 crop. I think your problem is more in that you've got some cool details in there that need to be brought out, but without them you have a nice landscape captured in a portrait aspect ratio that further goes to confound the viewer as to what's interesting. Use a...

    D750 High ISO Posts

FYI, I've deleted both threads. I cannot generate unadulterated images from the D750 RAW files no matter what I've used. I've wasted about 8 hours of time, and lost at least half that more in sleeplessness trying to figure out how the hell to make this work without a full release version of...

D750 1 Point Below D610 In DXoMark Scoring

For anyone still interested, I just did a series of exposures from 800 to 25600, JPEG and RAW, and all I can say is, "Poppycock!!" (I love that word!!) Not a chance in hell that the D750 and D610 are the same, at least after getting through the processing engine. More in my full review...

My Heart's Always In The Wrong Place, Farinon Student Center stairway. Was so excited to see these stairs because I was hoping to find a shot like this. At the bottom was a huge pile of garbage bags I needed to maneuver through, then when I looked up there's this green balloon in my shot...

    Hark's 2014 Occasional Photos

It's very difficult to see the differences as displayed, so I've had to save and open them in PS to give you the critique you're looking for. Before that, however, I'll say that I probably wouldn't have noticed anything in the second photo just from seeing it here. And only because you've...
