Well, a f/4-6.3 lens isn't going to be very heavy because it doesn't need to be. I know what you mean about the plastic feel of some of the newer lenses, it bugs me, too. But, if you don't need wider apertures, I suspect this lens will do well for you. Just don't drop it. :)

Eagle pair just as the sun was rising this morning. The sun was at my back and painting the clouds with pinks and purples.

Pied-billed Grebe catching small crawdads

Wood Ducks love acorns. In the second shot the drake is hoping the hen drops the acorn so he can snatch it up.
