    Marching Band

Over the last few months, most of all of my photography efforts have been for the Niceville, Florida Senior High School Eagle Pride Marching Band. I've taken between 2500-2700 shots in what can mostly be described as fair lighting , at best, along with three other "band photographers"...

How would you change the D700?

I've had my D700 for a few months and it is now my "reach for" camera. (My other is a D90.) I am simply elated with this camera. But,if upgrades were available, I'd want the D700 to have an upgraded processor for improved ISO range and performance and sensor resolution of 16-19 MPix. What...

    Why did you go digital?

I went digital because of the cost of film and processing for one family trip; to Pasadena, California for the 2008 Tournament of Roses Parade. I had discussed purchasing a digital SLR for the trip earlier with my wife, who was staunchly against me spending more money on cameras. (I already...

    Nikkor 85 mm Experience???

I am looking for recommendations from the community in regards to Nikon's 85 mm lens lineup. I'm leaning towards either the AF-s f/1.4 or the -D f/1.4, but I could be swayed toward the f/1.8 lenses , as well. Does anyone have experience with any of these lenses that they are willing to share? WM

    5 Oct 2013: Scott Kelby’s 6th Annual Worldwide Photo Walk™

Due to an unwelcome guest visiting, our Photowalk (Destin, FL) is cancelled. Just got the e-mail from the walk leader, who made the call. Darn the luck! And we've been so quiet all year so far! Have fun, everybody! WM

    While looking for old filters...

I was going through two camera cases, one holding my Hasselblad 500 C and accessories. While I can't use any of the filters with my new Nikkor lenses (too small), I can use them with a couple of my old Nikkor manual focus lenses if I use step-up rings. While I had the case open, I took the...

    macro flash question

What subject-to-camera distances are you working with? I have a Nikkor 105 Micro and was counting on reduced lens aperture to increase DOF (Depth of Field) and found that at maximum reproduction ratio distances (i.e., very close) the DOF didn't increase much, if at all, until stopped down to...

    Nikon 105mm f2.8 VRI lens

As I get to experiment with this lens, I often am surprised. Like at when at minimum focus distance, or close to it, stopping down the lens doesn't seem to add much depth of field, at all. At least according to the Lens Manual. This was taken at f/11, with flash. Although the clarity of...

    Problem with Nikkor Micro 105

My new Nikkor 105 2.8 G Micro is acting strangely. On both my D90 and D700 the aperture range of the lens is 4.8 to 54. The specifications for the lens are f2.8 to f32. My other lens read properly on both cameras. I haven't had the chance to take it out and see how it works with exposure...

    Macro Cicadia Opportunity So Close

I was out at a local pharmacy this evening and on my way out to my car I saw an adult Cicadia crawling on the side walk, and not wanting to pass up the opportunity to photograph it, I quickly ran my purchase out to my car and went back into the store to find a container to place the Cicadia into...
