Thoughts on a lightweight ballhead for hiking?

I have a Bogen Manfrotto Tripod and Bogen Manfrotto geared head that I purchased new back in the late 1990's. Over the years, they dropped the word Bogen and label their products as Manfrotto at least here in the US. Did you ever try the Demon DB-44 ball head? After reading up on a number of...

Thoughts on a lightweight ballhead for hiking?

I don't know how much your Bogen head weighs, but I still have a Bogen 3047 head that is very hefty. Definitely never liked carrying that tripod around because the combined weight was about 10 pounds. :hurt: Benro makes a ball head that is outside your price range but is widely recommended on a...

Sometime last fall I saw this mural in the process of being painted. This was my first time back to photograph the finished project. And while I was in the area, I took a couple photos - these were taken within a few feet from the Delaware River. The white tree in the second image really...

Since I tested out the 300mm lens on my D500 Saturday - small birds at a distance and was impressed - I went out on Monday with this lens and the 1.7x TC. Nope. Everything was soft. This one I managed to sharpen enough although it is excessively sharpened. It was the best of the images I took...

My D500 hasn't been focusing well at all lately despite cleaning its contacts as well as the contacts of my lenses. The thing is it seems almost every time I clean a lens' contacts, there is a small bit of grime that comes off on my Pec Pad. Makes me wonder where it comes from since I haven't...

Today I captured this interaction between Rangle, the Harris Hawk and a photographer. Rangle: Hey you ... standing by the backdoor. You look like a hippie. Ima gonna call you BackdoorHippie. Photographer: Lol. That was my username before I changed it to @BackdoorArts - now turn your head to the...

I went back and edited out the sensor spots. Both were set for Camera Neutral for the Camera RAW profile - and no editing except to use an adjustment brush for any clipped whites. I figure if I need either for sky replacements, then I can do any additional editing at that time.

I'm on a roll with 3 days in a row! ;) Today's forecast was for 8" of snow. By 5:30am, all the local schools cancelled classes. I did see 3 itty-bitty snowflakes. :beguiled: That was all we received. We did have a very colorful sky at sunset. I was going to upload the images but saw each one...

A lackluster day for weather. Mostly overcast although the sun came out a couple times while I was still at home. Despite it being in the low 60's today, tonight and tomorrow is forecast for accumulating snow. :( I'm the one who gets to clean it up so I'm not thrilled. In general I've found...

With the dreary rain, I really wasn't expecting to see anything today - that was until I drove to the Park and saw the fog. :) Editing fog photos was never my strength - but this time I went about the editing process much differently. Increasing contrast tends to wash out the fog. So less...

Post your favorite/best shot for 2021

I'd have to say this one is my favorite. It's rare to see deep, vibrant fall colors around here. Usually the colors are washed out. But we had rain that morning, and when leaves are wet, they tend to display more saturated colors. This day was a feast for the eyes because there were spectacular...

I went back through photos taken on the most colorfully saturated day I've ever seen here. It rained earlier which tends to punch up the saturation of leaves.

    Merry Christmas!

Today was overcast with rain part of the day. However, I did happen to see this sitting along the Delaware River so I circled back to take a photo. At least here in the USA, A Charlie Brown Christmas is a traditional holiday movie shown every year on TV.

Just a cell phone photo - but I can't explain this. :beguiled: I fill these small paper Dixie Cups near to the top with water and freeze for Dixie Cup Ice Massage. It's used in physical therapy to help reduce inflammation. I've been freezing these since the late 1980's after my third knee...

It's been a while since I've posted here. This afternoon I came across this holiday decoration hanging on a tree. It almost looks like there is snow on the ground, but there isn't. That's just a parking lot in the background. ;)
