    Fire hydrant

Following on from my posts #5 & #23 in the Weekly Challenge https://nikonites.com/forum/threads/weekly-photo-challenge-feb-14th-20th-fire-hydrants-or-other-fire-fighting-equipment.48279/, I went for a stroll down a nearby country lane - actually it's a segment of old road that had been...

Weekly Photo Challenge Feb 14th - 20th "Fire Hydrants or other fire fighting equipment"

Having raised the issue about UK fire hydrants in #5 I thought I would go out and shoot a proper one rather than the exemplar sign in #5. Oh my goodness, they are as rare as rocking horse manure. Within a five mile radius around my house I could only find this rather pathetic example. I queried...

Weekly Photo Challenge Feb 14th - 20th "Fire Hydrants or other fire fighting equipment"

This update solves my original issue and opens up a broader approach wherever one is in the world. Now all I need is a little boost in fitness, some decent weather and if all that fails ------ a box of matches and a bucket of water. ;)

Thanks Needa but I think I'll pass on this one unless something totally unexpected crops up.

Weekly Photo Challenge Feb 14th - 20th "Fire Hydrants or other fire fighting equipment"

Hmm, this could present a problem for us in England (and possibly the rest of the UK and Europe) Fire hydrants in England are normally in a chamber below ground level under the pavement (sidewalk) and covered by a removable or hinged metal plate access cover. As close as feasibly possible to...

    Tulips Inner Secrets

This was one of a bunch of supermarket tulips that were on their last legs and starting to lose their petals. This caught my eye against the bright sky.

Thank you for your comment Clovishound and I think we are of a similar mindset. Woodworking and wood turning was my other hobby until arthritis in my hands finally put paid to it some 20-odd years ago. Despite my refusal to accept it, the day I struck a golf shot and the club went further than...

    January 2024 Monthly Assignment: NEW

I'm bit of a sucker for trying to give old kit new life and when I came across this a few days ago for just a few £'s I couldn't resist. I have tested it against my Sekonic L-758DR under a variety of flash head configurations and it's never been more than ½ a stop out. So the Sekonic will now...

Thanks for looking and you are quite right Marilynne, however the pivot pin and hole of these pincers is badly worn and not worth re-bushing now as I have several others in excellent condition. These were presented to my father-in-law when he was an apprentice fitter and, given my age, I'm...

    Dead heading

Two items heading for the recycling bins: I've just noticed that the exif data shows a created date of 2023, this is wrong and should be 2024-the camera date is set wrong and puts my ineptitude on display again.
