It was definitely a busy night for Air Traffic Control!
Star trails are a load of fun to shoot and Star Stax is a very easy to use program. I took this outside of Phoenix, AZ with the D700 and 18mm f/3.5 AIS. I think there were about 75 exposures total.
This Wood Stork seems to be reminding the Roseate Spoonbills around it who is boss in this little mud puddle. This has got to be one of the absolute ugliest birds on the planet until it spreads its wings, and then those iridescent green feathers are amazing! D850 and 600mm f/4 ED-IF AIS Nikkor.
The D850 and my "Beast"; 600mm f/4 ED IF AIS Nikkor, here 1 stop down
This is a 100% crop (screen shot from PS CC) from the original image. This snowy egret was about 50' away. No sharpening at all, just some slight manipulation of the high values to bring out more texture in the downy...
I have a card reader with slots for both an XQD and SD card. The computer recognizes the SD card with no problem but will not recognize the XQD. The same for Windows Explorer when I connect the D850 directly to the computer. I have to use the import function to copy the files to the hard drive...
Brookgreen Gardens is a botanical and animal park that was established in 1931. It also has over a hundred bronze statues throughout the grounds. I went out for a few hours today and shot some wildlife.
There are snowy egrets all over the place
I came upon a Barr Owl
Apparently there...
This jumping spider was tiny, 5 mm long including legs. I shot it with a 35mm f/2 Nikkor reversed on a D7100. Depth of field was so shallow that I focus stacked 10 images in Photoshop
Although I usually go the scanner route, I have also used my PB-6 bellows, slide attachment and 50mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor
This is an image from a High Speed Ektachrome slide from a Heart concert back in 1977 that I copied with the above setup and a small output studio flash for lighting. It...
Sorry for the crappy photo. I have longed to have one of these lenses (15mm f/3.5 AIS Nikkor) for many years and I finally took the plunge and got one. It is superlatively sharp on the D850 and completely rectilinear, no barrel or pincushion distortion at all. It will come in very handy for...
Focus stacking is a very powerful tool for photographing small objects where you want to have depth of field deeper than can be accomplished with aperture alone (or you would not want to stop all the way down due to softening thanks to diffraction). This little critter was only 5mm long from leg...
After 7 years of dedicated service and countless images, I finally upgraded my D700 to a D850. 90+% of the features on this camera I will never use, but the image quality is stunning and I am hoping it may be the last DSLR I ever buy. The days of the D700 are far from over, however, it will...
If you have been on this site for several years you have no doubt seen several images of Lynnsey. She is bar none my favorite model to work with. But you have never seen her like "this", or as I am fortunate enough to see her. I was bored and was thinking of something to do so I decided to have...
I use a 600mm f/4 ED-IF AIS Nikkor, which of course is manual focus. It takes a lot more concentration to use a manual focus lens, but with practice it is not that bad. I shot this Snowy Owl in northern NH about a year ago or so.That lens is a BEAST at over 14 pounds but it\s IQ is superb but a...
