Like people, like car portraits - long lenses.

Tip I remembered from one of the N-Photo apprentice under-a-pro-wing sections on cars - you want to shoot cars with at least a 105 or a slightly longer lens to avoid distorting the shape. Seems like common sense, but realistically 90% of the people get their wide angles out to shoot cars at...

Flash bender L + Softbox vs Umbrellas

For studio, outdoor, indoor events, etc. Thoughts? Gary fong is a very picky cup of noodles; sb910's own diffuser still leaves HARSH light spots on some surfaces. I figure a good diffuser to use the most power/that can easily spread vertically too + a softbox to kill those shadows would be a...

So, moved to Vegas, trying to establish myself out here - hilarious little story.

Within the first or so week I did all my homework on all the regular photo ops here, and one was SpyOnVegas big hotel even coverage company. I figured, I've been doing that over a year, might as well shoot em an email. Sent links to my site/fb page for them to glance over. Got a reply that brass...

    Sooo, which 70-200 2.8?

VR II is out of budget like a race horse, VR1 I read rather mixed reviews about and fact that it was made in pre-FX digital days, so the choices might be between Siggy or Tammy. Would probably let my 70-300 go since it will be inferior and redundant, so ~350 budget boost will also help quite a...

    Paid gigs out west?

Since i'll be hopping to Vegas next week to visit friends and get a change of scenery, can anyone who live in that general area (states wise, not just NV) tell me how easy or not it can be to find some paying gigs? I've been doing events and restaurants around here in DC, but I hardly see any...

    Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX - Like New, 9/10 - SOLD

Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G DX - Like New, 9/10 My used, but perfectly working and looking 35. Don't see using it all that much now that I'm on FX, but I do need some cash for my hop over to Vegas very soon. Comes with a more vintage Nikon front cap (unless I have a spare original somewhere), unused...

    Traded 565EX for SB910!

Given the amount of probono I've been doing with one of my clients, fact that a 565 got me to where I am right now, him owning and dusting a 910, and I guess throwing in a future bday gift idea I traded with him. He has identical dual-flash setup if he ever wants to try that or a backup; I have...

    First Impressions – Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 AF Macro ( E72 )

http://skvoraltdphoto.com/first-impressions-tamron-sp-90mm-f2-8-af-macro-e72-11/ Figured I'd go a quick overview and update it as I go along since I've HARDLY found any useful info on this guy being overshadowed by the Di version.

CPU Trickery?? Tamron 90 SP Macro 2.8

So I'm noticing that due to CPU handing over aperture control to the body, this guy is only f/5.6 at the maximum "zoom"/minimum focal distance. Is it a simple correction of the effective aperture due to extension of the front element taken into account via CPU or what?

    50/1.2, 1.4D, or 105 Micro D or alternative?

Might be able to do a little shopping once again, but it will have to be extremely purpose-built. I lack a GOOD FX prime with AF for low light as much as I lack a GOOD FX 1:1 outta the box macro lens that I could do lots of fun things with. Or well, perhaps some kind of 85 for portrait purposes...

    50, 85, or 2.8 zoom?

So here's my potential new predicament- a friend of mine told me that a couple she was referred to as a dancer for their last-minute-planned wedding is looking for a photographer and referred me despite my general lack of experience in this particular field. I talked with the groom and told him...

Which exact AF config do you guys use for wildlife?

Started playing around with all the options today, but want to get some opinions from all you vets. Clearly only single point is not enough, especially for birds, and the full-on 39 points seems to make it miss the subject if I'm panning through obstacles. Then there's 9 point and 21 (I think)...

18-55 DX VR II - nice design update!

Got to see one in person the other day after noticing it online and in N-Photo hand-in-hand with D3300 and I must say, it's probably the best basic kit for the lower end crops across the market as far as design goes. Internal focus? Yes! Retractable for proper compactness? Yes! Else it still...

Would that be too much to mod and handle or somewhat feasible? It most likely wouldn't take away from posting, but would be nice for quick "hey"s and a bit of live chatter besides camping desired forums and posts. So, Mods, thoughts?
