Our neighbors keep bees, and this is probably one of their's on the lavender in their front yard.

It is usually very dry from mid-June on through summer. Even cattails normally get fairly brown in July from the heat and receding waterline.

The best field ornithologists in the area believe it is an unusually marked Snowy Egret. I think some people wanted it to be an unusual bird for our area and were looking with hopeful eyes. :) @hark @Marilynne
