    The Lawn

I mowed it today. Thought you might like to know. Got a nice ride-on Walker mower to use too so it was fun.

    MAC and Nikon Transfer

Can anyone tell me how to view the thumbnails in full screen mode when I insert my card and "Nikon Transfer" comes up? It would be great to see the full screen view in order to make selecting which RAW files I want to keep and process rather than having to downed all and then delete as...

    Gadgets For Phones

I spend a lot of time doing research on the Internet and came across a website that promotes lenses and other stuff to cameras to improve photography. Really? Will someone with an iPhone actually go and buy a great hulking lens or a microscope and hold it in front of a teeny lens? To my mind it...

London Town and Reading Nikon Shops

Anyone from either London or Reading that can recommend a good photography shop? Good encompasses stock and of course price. My flatmate is going over and I have suggested to her that she buys small things such as Rapid Strap, eyecups, memory card etc. Things that are useful that don't weigh...

    I'm going AWOL too

Tomorrow I am off to see the anaesthetist for some surgery scheduled for Monday (5/26) and between now and then I have a lot to do. Tomorrow and Saturdays photos I will be able to post on Saturday night but from Sunday until whenever I have no idea if I will have access to a computer. My...

    A very interesting discussion

I have just had an interesting discussion with a very good photographer; We got on to the subject of preserving clicks and not just taking shots for the sake of it. She believes, and I have heard this from many sources, that preparation is key along the lines of: First think about what you want...

Not sure I have what it takes

The learning curve I have been on since buying my camera and joining this group has been phenomenal but it seems the more I learn the more I need to learn. I think my photography has improved a little bit but when I look at some of the photos on here and elsewhere I am not sure I have the...

What Makes a Photo Stand Out

Okay so I took a photo and entered in my local camera club's monthly contest. My first month I was a C-grade - everyone starts there and it is nothing to be proud about simply because it is a starting point. The photo in question got an "honours" for C-grade and was instrumental in moving me up...

    Neewer CN-216

Not sure if this is the right thread for this as this is a light as opposed to a flash. Available on Amazon Neewer CN-216 Has anyone ever tried this light? The reviews seem pretty good (although construction is flimsy) and for the price this seems to be a real bargain. Anyone? It seems to be a...

    Care for Your Gear

Scott Murray purchase of a dry cabinet got me thinking … as strange as that may sound. I am all into "what should I buy next?" as far as lenses and camera gear goes but am I protecting/looking after my existing equipment properly? Should I not be buying stuff for "preventative maintenance"...

    Using Ebay for First Time

Encouraged by others saying that buying off Ebay in China is safe and products are good I am looking at ebay for the first time ever. However the prices on certain items (for example Rapid straps and eyecups) vary hugely. What's the rule of thumb here as far as name brands goes or generic...

    "I Had A Dream"

Just having bait of fun in another thread about buying a number of prime lenses reminded me that I had a dream the other night. There I was sitting on the tail gate of my brand new truck. At first I thought it was a Nissan but on closer inspection it was a NASsan … Anyway I had all this gear...

    Youngnuo Speedlite YN460-II

Can anyone tell me if this is any good? I understand it cannot be used with TTL but does that mean I cannot use it at all with my D5100 or put another way what would I need to use it with my D5100? Thanks guys.

    Modern Day Slavery

This is a very moving video on modern day slavery with some incredible photos. It is 20 minutes long and I had to watch till the end. Filmed in 2012 so you may have seen it. Lisa Kristine: Photos that bear witness to modern slavery | Talk Video | TED Well worth watching in my opinion.

    Motorcycle Pan

I'd really like some feedback on this photo taken after sunset. I hadn't ever tried a really fast panning before and saw this biker approaching from some distance. I was in manual in Single point focus. I like the photo but not sure if it has any technical merit so will leave that to feedback...

    1.4 or 2 X teleconverter

Need advice on which to get for my gear (see signature for what I have) I seem to remember (remembering is quite a feat these days!) reading somewhere that the 2X loses too many stops so something less may be the option. And do I have to by Nikon to fit my nikon camera/lens combo. Dumb huh?
