If you've been thinking of buying or upgrading to a D5100, today might be your lucky day! Woot! is selling a refurbished Nikon D5100 with a Nikkor 18-55mm lens for US$429.99. I did a quick comparison at Adorama and it is US$50 cheaper at Woot. I have purchased items in the past from Woot and...

New Bag Line for Mirrorless by Think Tank

Think Tank recently introduced a new line of bags called Mirrorless Movers intended to provide a solution for carrying mirrorless cameras and lenses. After looking at the Steve Huff video review below, I ordered the Mirrorless Mover 20 for my Nikon V1 system. I'll report on it when I receive it.

Video: LR5 Beta Tutorial on new Healing and Cloning Tools

I wasn't familiar with Laura Shoe prior to this video. She does an excellent job IMHO of introducing the new healing and cloning tools in LR5. I especially appreciated the comparison to the content aware features in PS.

Cannon Overlooking Lisbon from Castelo de São Jorge (HDR)

I decided to try a HDR because the cannon was shaded by a tree and I wanted to include the texture from the barrel. This was a real challenging situation with the brightness of the panorama in the distance. I tried both HDR Efex and Photoshop CS6 and preferred the results from Photoshop.

    Nikon V1 & 18.5mm for Pano? YES!!!

I predict that you'll love the 30-110mm. On our recent trip, I brought the 6.7-13mm, 18.5mm and the 30-110mm and it was an excellent kit. Our first two days were in Barcelona. Since we had visited there previously, I wanted to see how this setup would stand up to the DSLR and only used the V1...

    Nikon V1 & 18.5mm for Pano? YES!!!

This might be the sharpest Nikon lens - bar none - that I've used. I also have the 6.7-13mm, 10-30mm and 30-110mm. The 10-30mm is by far the least sharp of any of them. Which lens did you get? There is a 10-100mm f/4.0-5.6 VR and a 10-100mm f/4.5-5.6 VR PD.

    Nikon V1 & 18.5mm for Pano? YES!!!

It was raining on a recent visit to Porto, Portugal so I only brought my V1 when we visited the port wine tasting rooms. YUM! Oh, right photography. . . the section of Porto near the river is called Gaia. During a break in the rain, I took 4 images resulting in the pano below. I created the...

Catedral de la Santa Cruz y Santa Eulalia Cloister Fountain

Okay, yesterday was so much fun with the critique of my V1 image from Plaça de Ramon Berenguer El Gran, I thought we could try again! This image is from earlier the same day of a fountain in the cloister of the Barcelona Cathedral (Catedral de la Santa Cruz y Santa Eulalia). I captured the image...

Plaça de Ramon Berenguer El Gran

Great advice. . . I was trying to isolate too much. . . I think keeping the background a bit lighter accomplishes this better. I had another capture that was captured vertically and created this based on your (and Helene's) feedback. I like it! Wow that is waaay outside the box and...

    Anyone Using a Gordy Strap?

I use the Nikon AH-N1000 with my V1 and am very pleased with it. I purchased it for around US$15 from B&H.

Plaça de Ramon Berenguer El Gran

Excellent observation and along the same lines as my concerns. The other crop that I had made (below) is maybe too aggressive?

Plaça de Ramon Berenguer El Gran

My wife actually first noticed the reflection caused by the statue lighting in the Plaça de Ramon Berenguer El Gran in Barcelona. I had my V1 with us and tried to capture it. My question for critique is whether the bottom part of the image is too busy and if I should crop? I left it in because I...

The 1 Nikkor 18.5 does the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria

I took the Nikon V1 and 1 Nikkor 18.5/f1.8 to the public market in Barcelona known as La Boqueria a couple weeks ago. All images were shot in RAW and post processed in LR4. The 18.5 is the "nifty fifty" equivalent for the Nikon 1 series and fast becoming a favorite lens.

    Crop conundrum

The challenge I see with cropping this image is the brightness of the sun. My first instinct is to crop the top of the clouds off (10-15% of the top of the image). A tough decision is whether the lower right corner stays or goes. I think I would crop for a pano effect. I downloaded the file...

    Train Failure in a Tunnel

My wife and I were recently in Palma de Mallorca and took the famous electric train to Sóller. As we were in the last downhill tunnel, one of the brakes seized. The conductor came through the cars and said that the repair would take 5-10 minutes but that the electricity would be out. The only...
