    Rick M's Occasional Postings 2013

Old quarry shovel and train Found these exploring a quarry today. Vantage points were not the best and the sun was against me, but HDR helped with the lighting. I thought the color was interesting also, I didn't enhance it much,

Interesting architecture here in Syracuse. This is the Niagra Mohawk building with "Iron Mike" on it. Next time I'll take some more time squaring up on this and focus on the statue.

    New P330 shoots RAW!

This looks like a nice little P&S to compliment my DSLR. Sensor is mini, but larger than most P&S. The main thing is it shoots RAW and has auto-bracketing! 24-120mm f1.8 is great too! Nikon COOLPIX P330 Digital Camera (Black) 26414 B&H Photo Video

Take a look at the difference HDR makes in B&W! The first is the normal exposure. I could not brighten the image without blowing out the snow. The HDR version handled the snow and background details very well. Nornal Exposure processed, HDR

    Second Portrait Attempt

I reprocessed these 3 from STM's tip on using the dodge tool. I'm much happier with the results now. Still need to fine tune lighting but I was able to balance the exposure better now. That and keeping the old bald guy away from the hair light should make for better results next time. I...

    Second Portrait Attempt

Here's a few shots from my second attempt, I like the results with the black background. Since my first attempt I've added a hair light and boom along with the black background. I've decided the tye-dye and blotted looking ones are a bit busy for me. I've learned from this shoot also, next time...

ND filters. A little confused regarding what I need..

The idea is to get the correct exposure and slow the shutter speed, great for waterfalls,
