    "Thank You"

This shot is of Onondaga Lake, near Syracuse NY. The lake is one of the most polluted in the country due to decades of dumping by Allied Chemical. Tons of by products from soda ash were dumped into the lake including about 25lbs of mercury per day. It is now in the middle of 15 year, $1 billion...

Re: New Nikon 18-35g Thread This is from the excavator shot, the over exposure of the series. Below are some crops of the un-cropped original. These are at 18mm and no distortion correction applied, pretty good for an ultra-wide! Keep in mind that the extremes are far behind the focal plane...

    Just joined the mirrorless crowd!

A test in the RAW. Not many great subjects so I'm at my desk, 1/60th with flash (relatively low light). No PP except for sizing, 2nd shot is 100% crop, I think is great for a 1" sensor. Focus point is on the chip in the cup.

    Just joined the mirrorless crowd!

I'm at the end of my bananas:) This is a shot with the 10-30 kit lens at 30mm (translation is 82mm). This has vr, shot at 1/25th at f5.6, Jpeg!. Imagine what a fast lens can do! There is also an adapter available to use all of the standard mount lenses on this tiny body.

    Just joined the mirrorless crowd!

The Nikon 1 J3 was just discontinued so Best buy was selling them out for $349 (from $599) so I sold my P&S to pick up one of these. I was mainly attracted to the larger sensor, but all of the other features are very impressive. I'm amazed how small it is! Now waiting for the battery to charge.....,

    S1 and J1 Auto Bracketing?

Anyone know if these have that feature? I cannot find it in any specs.

Do you set hyperfocal or focus a different way?

If you are really close to something, you will want to focus on a part close to you. I stick to the 1/3 rule with things a bit further away (say the 12' Jake mentioned). For example, in this shot I focused on the shovel, which was only about 3' away (and actually about 1/3 down from it's tip).
