A true first click. Not the best exposure, but some extensive LR5 work seem to give it enough life to save it from the last keystroke.

Yep. A fine line there is between just right and too much. It depends on the image. The punched up version in post #11, the flower is on the verge of sinking into the background. It is subtle but it has lost the distinction it has in the before picture. My eye though and as @Woodyg3 says...

First click as I played with the AF-S DX 18-55mm VR today.

Had to give it a try and maybe accentuate the story line.

#2 is a very fine shot. Just needs a little help.

My first run was with the original, but I figured downsizing would affect the outcome, so I did a second one after I downsized the original (960 pixels long edge), before starting the thread. Thanks for the @wev rendition.
