    Hammer's Interesting Infrareds

Starting this with a series taken near Darlington, WI. A storm front had recently moved through and I had dramatic clouds with sunshine.

    Post your latest purchases.

Ordered on Saturday, arrived yesterday. A Chinese brand carbon fiber tripod that finally should live up to the stability standard of my Sirui K-40 ball-head. Massively large diameter legs and stands above my eye level with the legs fully extended. Had the leveling-bowl mount included as well as...

Post your favorite May 2022 shot

I reserve the right to take a better one this week. :D At the harbor in Port Washington, WI Instead I just fixed the color profile I saved with. It was a bland day, but not nearly as bland as the first photo was. :p

    D7500 Availability

Just read an article at Nikon Rumors about Nikon's own projected earnings in the coming 4 years. The pie-chart graph clearly indicates they plan to be out of the F-mount business before 2025. I think I will still be holding my D750 then as I agree it is easier to track birds in flight with the...

I think there is a photo here. I just can't find it in my viewfinder.

I get the gist of what everyone is suggesting. And I continue to welcome ideas to try. I used the 15mm lens partly because I already have been here before and tried at 28mm and longer. I wanted to see if this is really a negative-space image like I sometimes will see done for prairie and arctic...

I'm back in the infrared photography game.

From my lunch spot today. I had the storm clouds I was hoping for later but I was running late for a medical appointment, so no time to stop.

I'm back in the infrared photography game.

Had the IR D600 along with me today and was hoping for some stormy clouds. Instead I just took photos at the park where I ate lunch.

I think there is a photo here. I just can't find it in my viewfinder.

This is a scene looking from the front parking area of a client location for me. I keep coming here and thinking I see a photo to take, but I just lose it in the viewfinder. Today I tried with my 15mm Zeiss lens. It was cloudy and sort of bland color today. I might be on to something with...

    Teleconverter

Sigma makes their own 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters that are compatible with the lens in F-mount. No experience with either the teleconverter or D3400 personally. But I do have a story of owning a Tamron 1.4x autofocus teleconverter years ago. Was perfectly happy with it on the D80 I was using...

    Sky watchers! Total Lunar Eclipse

Stacked about 55 images in SIRIL. Taken from tripod with Z5, Sigma 150-600mm C, various exposure settings in the individual images.

    Sky watchers! Total Lunar Eclipse

No prize on this one other than first to post. A jpeg nearly as it was saved on my Z5. No tracking telescope mount and kind of slow exposure with the ISO cranked up high. I could not get a spot where Polaris was visible and a tree not blocking my view of the moon.

Head for Monopod with a Nikon 600MM F/4

I use a simple tilt-head for my monopod. It can either screw on to the standard head fitting or clamp into a Arca-Swiss mount. Solid aluminum mostly, I think. You can easily pan side-side with a monopod by turning the entire stick (unless you are using one of those kind with the feet on them)...

    Autostitch for creating panoramas

In another thread I created a small tangent regarding making panoramas with Autostitch. I think posting information here is more useful. Autostitch is a free demo program created to showcase the code for stitching panoramas, and is commercially licensed through the University of British...

    Post your vertical stitched photos

From 2008. It was a very large tree as I recall. Picnic Point on University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. I used a stand-alone freeware called Autostitch to assemble 4 images. It is still my go-to tool for stitching photos. Just import the jpg images and let it rip. It's that simple, other than...
