Really, a proper swivel-type monopod head looks like this. Personally I need a third hand to hold a monopod, support the camera, and manipulate a ball-head. You can leave the knob a bit loose and track up-down easily, and rotate the entire monopod to track side-side.

Finally took this lens out for some real photos. I just did some scenery following a morning of harassing eagles with my clicking shutter. I really had to adjust my composition mindset. This will not be a natural thing for a while.
