    issues with this lens

I have this lens. I even did some macro work today with one of my watch collection. But one thing I can share is that I have to have the aperture out at f/16 to give enough depth of field for an entire watch dial that is sitting angled to the lens. That is what I am seeing wrong in your photos...

    500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor

In 2018 a few months after buying my Sigma lens, I tried a fairly direct comparison of moon images. Same night, same setup, changed lenses. I even dialed the Sigma back to 500mm for a more fair comparison. I reprocessed a bit with the current version of RawTherapee and left the final photos...

    500mm f/8 Reflex Nikkor

OK, I dug in my photo editing PC and here are my sample Nikkor 500mm reflex photos. Old stuff with a D80 and D7000 bodies so 750mm effective view. I removed crops and re-processed with my current version of RawTherapee.

    Editing Fog Photos

OK, here is my quick attempt at it with GIMP. I duplicated the image as a 2nd layer and made a 3rd layer that I desaturated to monochrome and copied that to use as a layer mask for the 2nd layer. The variable is how much contrast you add to the layer mask, then reduce the contrast of the upper...

    Gear Cart?

And in the rolling jobsite storage category, I found this stacking Stanley hard-shell boxes. https://www.amazon.com/Destinie-Stanley-Organizer-Portable-Workshop/dp/B07PVGDSBH/ref=sr_1_41?dchild=1&keywords=job

    Gear Cart?

Just searching for "outdoor cart" on the big A site, I see mostly these folding pull-behind wagons... https://www.amazon.com/HEMBOR-Collapsible-Portable-Adjustable-Shopping/dp/B07WHNVSJ4/ref=sr_1_19?dchild=1&keywords=outdoor+photo+gear+cart&qid=1613268425&sr=8-19 Then I see a couple of these...

    Resizing advice please

In the Windows world, back in the Windows XP days there was "PowerToys" which could be downloaded from MS and added functions to XP. There was an Image Resizer tool which worked by right-clicking on 1 or more photos and selecting the resize image menu option. This was my preferred way to resize...

This maybe my first new lens and would like an opinion

I am one of those people with the Tamron 90mm. I mostly use it to photograph my wristwatch collection. I have tried other subjects, but you really need to get close-in even at 90mm range. For insects or hummingbirds, I seriously would more consider the 105mm micro-Nikkor or better the Tamron...

    Orion in a wider-field

I have had a plan for this since mid-December. I also have had many clouded and overcast nights, or moon interfering. Friday the 22nd a high pressure system finally parked nearby and we had clear skies, but freezing cold temperatures. The bigger problem was the moon was a little past first...

Any opinions on Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 vs 70-300mm f/4-5.6 ED?

My current lens situation is relevant here. Have both a D750 FX and D7000 DX body. My other telephoto lenses are the 24-120mm f/4 kit lens from the D750, Tamron 18-270mm Dx format (PZD version), Sigma 150-600mm C, and one of the subjects of my question: Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 ED. I've had the...

A hot-take on Siril for astrophotography.

Over the past 2 years I have been slowly learning the craft of astrophotography without a telescope. A critical piece of the puzzle is the software tools you use to process the images you take in camera. You won't be getting desired results just using Lightroom or Photoshop or whatever other...

    Post your frost photos

The past 3 days we have had a near-constant freezing-fog condition. The stuff really can get thick that way.

Well, I finally took the astrophotography "plunge"...........

Since I already own a portable goto telescope mount and have modified it for equatorial mode, I have been looking more to the small refractor telescopes. I got caught up in the promotional hype for the Radian Raptor 61 for a while, then found out it is a repackaged version of the Sharpstar 61...

    Another astrophotography oportunity on 12-21-2020.

That's a shame. I have been clouded-over after sunset for a week. Forecast is poor for the next 3 or 4 days too. I have not been able to see Jupiter in the sky for a week.

    An 'Ethics' Question

Jake, I kind of feel your mixed-feelings here. Personally I believe nearly every idea in photography under the sky has been done by somebody at this point. It is difficult to not duplicate somebody's work to some degree. But don't intentionally duplicate and give the same title. That is poor...

    Another astrophotography oportunity on 12-21-2020.

This is my tracking mount: Skywatcher AZ-GTi goto mount There is a mega-thread at Cloudy Nights forum about this mount. Skywatcher does not endorse this for astrophotography. But they did create and make available the alternate firmware that allows the mount to be reconfigured as an equatorial...
