This picture was taken with the same camera and lens of the same bird from the same distance as the first shot so you can see how much the previous shot was cropped.

This is a Great White Egret that I shot yesterday. It was some distance away and this has been cropped considerably. Taken with my Nikon D7000 and a Nikon 70-300VR lens.
