    Dominique’s old stones (mostly)

Thank you both for your feedback, it is good to know what fellow forum members like so that one can try to provide it. Regarding the books photo, I must admit with great shame that I could not find the setup info. I see from my tags on Flickr that I used my pair of Indra500 studio strobes...

Peak Design Oval Split rings with plastic sleeves

Ha ha! Call me Machiavelli: my devious scheme worked a charm! I already had one Peak split ring assembly that had come with a Cuff, and I managed to procure a second one from a local Nikon dealer in Lyon. I have a man there and he thought he might have seen an extra one lying around the store...

    Dominique’s old stones (mostly)

Today’s photo is a still life I took in the studio back when I loved to experiment with flashes (September 2019). This is entirely flash-lit, no natural light. Those are old leather-bound books from the 19th century. The shot was taken with a Z7 and a 35mm f/1.8 S lens. I have tons of very...

    Dominique’s old stones (mostly)

Thank you for your kind words. Regarding the technical data, this was taken with a Z7 II and a 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR S lens at 180mm focal length on a tripod (my medium-sized Gitzo which is a Series 2 [GT 2530]). The head I mostly use on that tripod is a Benro geared head GD3WH, very reliable...

Peak Design Oval Split rings with plastic sleeves

Just received the Cuff I ordered (I love Amazon), and bingo! the oval split ring is inside, together with a black plastic sleeve that’s so cute and a special little tool to help you to help you install the split ring. So, Peak still have a supplier they trust for those rings! Sorry for the ugly...

    Dominique’s old stones (mostly)

Hello all, I only recently joined this forum because I was drawn here by a Google search about, of all unlikely things, Peak Design’s oval split rings (see here). Almost each and every internet forum, regardless of its main subject, does things differently, and so I learned that here, one is...

    Bonjour tout le monde !

Thanks Needa. I will have to resize. I upload to Flickr in 2800 pixels but no big deal. Just one extra routine thing to do...

Peak Design Oval Split rings with plastic sleeves

You know, there could be something there... but then, they still supply at least one with each Cuff, I think... I have ordered another Cuff to verify that. If a split ring is inside the box, it will confirm they have no sturdiness issue. I am also talking to the Customer Service, trying to urge...

    Bonjour tout le monde !

Thanks a lot for your messages! Uploading one photo per day sounds interesting, but I'm not sure what are the max characteristics (dimensions in pixels, weight in KB or MB)... I have found messages exchanged on the subject, nothing definite so far... Thanks in advance for your help! Dominique

Peak Design Oval Split rings with plastic sleeves

I know about those split rings, you can buy them by the hundreds for almost nothing on Amazon, but depending on any one of those to hang 2,000 dollars worth of camera and 3,000 worth of lens always sounded a bit risky to me...! Getting the ones from Peak would at least come with a guarantee...

    Bonjour tout le monde !

Hello everyone! I'm Dominique from France. I've always been a Nikon user, since half a century ago. My first camera was a Photomic FTn and my current one is a Z7 II, although I also keep my older D3s and a D850, with a couple of F-mount lenses. Never felt the need to move to the Z8 or Z9, as...

Peak Design Oval Split rings with plastic sleeves

Alas ! it seems they are out of stock now! Being a Z7 II user, I have the exact same problem as my Three-Legged Thing Zelda L-bracket is on the camera almost at all times, so I cannot use the triangular, Nikon-supplied split rings. What I've been doing for years is use the older (thinner)...
