    LIGHTROOM PRICE INCREASE

We are being hit quite hard here in Europe as well: beginning in February, my monthly subscription will go from 11.99 euros to... 18.14 euros, a whopping 51 percent increase! 🤬 My grocery bill is left far, far behind...! Like you guys, I can keep my previous monthly price if I switch to yearly...

iPhones of yesterday and today (2025) In the background is my very first iPhone of 2007. The other one is my most recent acquisition, a secondhand iPhone 13 Mini in like-new condition. I bought this only a few days ago (January 2025) to replace my iPhone SE of 2016, which still worked just...

Flash-lit bee (2020) Snooted flash to camera right, up above subject. I was lucky that particular bee decided to go back and visit that clump of flowers again! The flash allowed me to overpower the Sun (this was taken in the morning) so that the only light illuminating the scene was the...

I tend to position the flash to one side or the other, depending on where I am versus the vegetation, and with some backlight if I can manage it. I do use a softbox, a Lastolite Joe McNally Ezybox model by Manfrotto (see description here). It looks like this and is the best softbox I ever used...

BIG filters go in there (2020) This is the NiSi S5 filter holder for filters of 150mm. It is the one I need to place filters in front of the ultra-wide, tilt-shift 19mm lens (also used to take this photo). The filters are enormous and very costly, but the only solution when you need to use...

    Advice on suitable lens

Congrats on your new-to-you, soon-to-be D810! It is still an excellent camera. I had one some years ago (I am actually currently uploading photos taken with it to my personal thread on this forum), traded it in for a D850 and I still keep that one, which was the best DSLR ever made, regardless...

Encore bees ! Darn ! I do have more bees in the lavender...! I post them because it may be interesting to some to see what can be achieved when shooting insects with the help of a carefully positioned cobra flash. You can obtain an interesting light and nice reflections that make barely...

Paul and Linda (2020) A very simple flay-lay still life around Linda’s Life in Photographs and Philip Norman’s The Life, the official biography of “Macca”, as he was apparently later dubbed by people who weren’t even born to buy The Beatles’ original records, let alone see them on stage. In the...

The Red Manor, part II (2015) As you can see, the Red Manor isn’t any more palatable in its entirety than in just a part. Eeeeks ! 😱 Nikon D810, Nikkor 24mm, ƒ/1.4 G lens, handheld.

Old paper lamp (2020) This shot was a lot more difficult to take than it looks. The background had somehow to be lit in cool blueish tones, while the foreground needed to be bathed in the warm glow from the lamp. All edges had to be blurred, so as to give off an impression of softness and...
