This is one of that Bucks girlfriends. I took this handheld through a gap in the foliage, just before I took the shot above. @300mm, f8, iso800, 1/40 sec.

I like my new Nikon 70-300 f4.5-5.6G VR.

I have taken about a hundred photos with this lens since I got it yesterday. This is the shot that has impressed me the most ( even though I missed part of his tail ). He was asleep under a tree on my property, when he heard me coming he took off like a shot through the fence and onto the...

    Camera upgrade strategy

I am a bit confused as to the best way to go about my upgrade path. Ultimately I think I want to end up with a D600. Do I really need a D600 ? Probably not. Do I want a D600 ? Yes. I see my options as, stick with my D3100 until I have enough money to go straight to a D600. Or, a stepping...

    Ironwoods Pen Journey

Finished this finial twist ballpoint this afternoon. I used Hairy Oak as a medium this time. Edit... the gold disc on the end of the finial depicts the Southern Cross Constellation, and the band on the centre of the pen depicts The Wattle Blossom, giving the pen an Australian flavour.

    Let's see some reptiles...

I spotted this Blue Tongue Lizard just outside my house this afternoon. I got a few shots of him before he got away into the bush. He wouldn't poke his tongue out at me though. As the name suggests, he has a very blue tongue.

    Ironwoods Pen Journey

I have tried a bit of experiment with my lighting, and I think I am on a winner. I have mounted 4 new lights on the outside of my lightbox shining in. First is a photo with no diffuser over the lights, I was just seeing if it was going to work... These next 3 have a white cloth over the...

    help with shooting gemstones

I have been trying to improve my photos of pens that I make, one of the suggestions I received was to use an iPad screen to sit the pen on, this could be something you could try. Or maybe a piece of black glass. Here is a pic of a Paua shell pen that I have been struggling with, it is sitting...

    Af 70-300 1:4-5.6d

Tried a couple of test shots in bright sunlight to get the shutter speed up, still needed iso800 though. Heres a shot of a water tap at 200mm , f8, 1so800, 1/1000 sec. Tripod and cable release used. Same photo, just cropped. I think its pretty sharp. Its not very practical for me though...

    Af 70-300 1:4-5.6d

I Tried to focus on the lighter coloured leaf that is just top right of centre. It looks pretty soft if zoomed in. I have been all over and the yellow leaf with the brown spots seems to be about the sharpest part ( looking through my poor eyes anyhow ) Edit; I have only taken about 15 photos...
