    St Johns Cathedral Brisbane

With 50,000 maroon fans roaring in the stadium they had the crowd behind them. Here's some of the Maroon Army getting primed before the game...

    St Johns Cathedral Brisbane

These indoor shots were with the 35 f1.8, @ f2.8 and iso 1600. I was granted permission to take photos inside. I didn't have a tripod with me so all shots are handheld, no flash. There was a service being conducted in one end, and other people praying, so I tried to stay as unobtrusive as...

    St Johns Cathedral Brisbane

Newer buildings have been built all around the Cathedral, it was hard at times to try and isolate it from the modern buildings.

    St Johns Cathedral Brisbane

Because I was rushing to try and fit so much in with so little time, I didn't compose most of these shots as well as I could have. I am still learning. In hindsight I could have positioned myself a lot better in some of the shots to minimise the effects of distortion with the wider shots. All of...

    St Johns Cathedral Brisbane

I was in Brisbane on wednesday to watch a football game, I had a couple of hours to spare in the afternoon. I walked the streets for a few blocks radius from my hotel looking for photo opportunities, I found this lovely old Cathedral.

    Anyone Get the Super Moon?

Just as a matter of interest because of the discussion about the moon looking different, I compared these shots. The first one taken at 7.30pm 22nd June, the second taken at 5am 24th June. I can only assume from these that it does rotate some, or at least our view of it changes as it moves...

    May 28 - June 28th Assignment = Still-life Flower(s) in Black and White

Well, all the entries have been excellent so far, the Judges have certainly got a job in front of them, choosing 5 out of so many stunning photos. I was holding off on my 3rd entry, hoping to get the time to get something a bit better. But I have run out of time, as I will be doing a bit of...

    Anyone Get the Super Moon?

I took these at about 5am on 24th June/13. Both are magnified to about 100%. First one handheld D7100, 70-300VR @300mm, f9 , 1/1250 sec, ISO 200 This one was taken with the same settings, but was taken @220mm, to see if it looked any different. I think I'll stick to 300 for moon shots.

As Pat said, it is quite heavily cropped. Here is one without any cropping.

    Ironwoods Plod - 2013

Here are a couple of shots of the Racecourse Sugar Mill. The cane crush started this week. This is one of about 4 mills in the district, this one is their flagship, because it uses its byproducts to distill ethanol, and it generates electricity and puts it back into the powergrid. The field in...

    Lest We Forget.....

This plaque is at the local shopping centre. I know some of the families of these fallen Soldiers. I took this photo handheld, very early this morning, hence the high iso. I had my back up against the wall and couldn't quite get all of it in the frame unfortunately. 35 f1.8 @ f4, 1/25th sec...

    Ironwoods Plod - 2013

I had to go into Mackay to do a few things for work today. While I was there, I had a few spare minutes and I had my camera with me in the car, a rare combination. These were taken with the 16-85. I am a bit surprised just how much wider 16mm is compared to my old 18-55. The pics of the...
