    Ironwoods Plod - 2013

I went for a walk with the 70-300VR on the D7100 hoping to see a bird or 2, I think the heat is keeping them away hiding in the bush. I did see a couple of Kangaroos making the most of the shade under my mango trees. A female having a feed of mango. The Buck wasn't too far away.

    Post your Insect shots

We are having a bit of a heatwave here at the moment. The insects won't cooperate, and I was off as well, this is the only insect shot I could salvage from my walkaround this afternoon.

    Best Macro lense

I use the 105VR for insects and spiders, I am happy with how mine performs. To get the best out of it will take a bit of refining your technique (same with any lens). There are some good threads on here that will help you with learning how to use flash and a diffuser to help get enough light on...

    Ironwoods Pen Journey

Jonathan, sorry for the delay, but here are some pics for a bit of size comparison. This one shows the 50 cal pen with a Parker ballpoint on the left, my best friend gave me this pen in 1972 when his family was moving to the Solomon Islands to manage a sawmill, to make sure that I wrote him...

    Ironwoods Plod - 2013

    Ironwoods Pen Journey

I have got another five 50 cal pens finished. 2 of them are claimed already for Christmas presents, the other 3 will go before Christmas also. I have another 8 cartridges left, will get to them after the New Year. Here are a few pics of one of them. These shells have been fired, as you can...

    Ironwoods Plod - 2013

Time for a couple more Plod pics. Taken with the Nikon 105 f2.8 VR. Some fruit from a Quandong tree, the birds love them. This poor little bird must have fallen out of the nest.

    Ironwoods Pen Journey

I got five of the 50 cal pens finished this afternoon. All of these have been spoken for, so I will have to get another batch underway. The proceeds from a couple of these will have to go towards buying more parts for my pens, but the rest will be going into my lens fund. Here is a very...

The March Flies are plentiful here at the moment, for a couple of weeks every December they are very hungry. Anyone who has been bitten by one, knows that proboscis hurts when it sinks into your skin.
