    Battery help

According to several sources I saw online, the Nikon L100 takes AA batteries.

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Thanks. There are several barrier islands on the coast here that have their treelines eroding into the surf. This is one of the closest to me (1 1/2 hour drive) with easy access. You have to plan carefully as the beach is not accessible at higher tides, and you have to plan to a certain level of...

    First impressions of the Z8

I've only had 4 outings with the Z8. Actually 3, it never came out of the bag at the beach. New, expensive camera, salt and fine sand. :cautious: First of all, this thing is a beast! I was surprised it wasn't the same form factor as the Z7ii. Bigger, heavier, although that's not a problem for...

    Post your fight pictures

I missed the actual confrontation. The blue heron was off picking up some nesting material nearby. The white heron decided to either take over the nest, or rob some material from it. The blue heron was having none of that. And the aftermath, with lots of screaming and posturing.

    Post your Birds in Flight

Made it out to Magnolia. It was rather overcast, so ISOs were high. Starting to get more and more birds nesting there. AF tracking on the Z8 worked well. It's not perfect, but I get a respectable percentage of in focus shots. Alot of the out of focus shots were either me not keeping the bird in...

The Pup dragged me down to the Boneyard Beach kicking and screaming. 3:45 AM is not my idea of the time to roll out of bed. We had a good time. The beach has changed a good bit again. I'm afraid it may not last that much longer. Not as much good subjects to choose from. Lots of jumbles of dead...

    First images with the Z8

The Pup dragged me out to cypress again this morning and I grabbed a few wood duck in flight shots. We are going out again tomorrow morning to the Boneyard Beach. We will have to leave the house a little after 4:30 AM for the 1 1/2 hour drive to get there 1/2 hour before sunrise. o_O In the...

    Post your latest purchases.

Well, the cat's already out of the bag, but here is a crappy picture of my newest purchase. OK, I'm not a still life photographer. I know, I should have dug out the polarizing filter, etc, etc. The new Z8 is setting atop the, actually, very nice "free" shoulder bag that came with it. It also...

I understand. That is actually a sound priority.

    First images with the Z8

Yeah, I should have done a more thorough go over before setting out with it, but it showed up at the door about 2:30, and I really wanted to try it out on some birds, so I needed to skedaddle over to Cypress before they closed the gates. Clock set now.

    First images with the Z8

Made a quick trip over to Cypress to try out the new gear. Made a few initial setting changes and headed over to the park to check out the AF capabilities. I was not disappointed. While not instantaneous or flawless, it did a very good job of finding and locking on to the bird's eye and tracking...

This makes things difficult for me, in a good way!

Yes, I am aware that the 8 won't give me much, if any image quality advantage over the 7ii. It may perform better in low light, being a stacked sensor, vs the BSI of the 7ii. While appreciated, additional low light performance is not a big deal for me, other than increased AF performance, which...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

OK, after taking a break and drooling over new camera bodies, I decided to try my hand at the first osprey image remake. I think I got it mostly right this time. At any rate, it's a big improvement. And here's the B&W version. I may like this one better than the color version.

This makes things difficult for me, in a good way!

I appreciate the advice, and I understand concentrating on building good solid lenses first. I have given that same advice to others. Unfortunately, in the wildlife game, especially moving birds, the camera can make a very big difference. Add to this, I have been very happy with the resolution...

This makes things difficult for me, in a good way!

The only F mount I have is the 200-500. Like I said in my original post, I wouldn't mind upgrading that to the Z 180-600, but not sure it's worth the $. Most of the comparison reviews say, if you have the 200-500, just stick with that. I currently have the 24-70 F4 and 105 micro in Z mount. Both...

This makes things difficult for me, in a good way!

Well, I just got an unexpected check. I won't say exactly how much it is, but it's enough to indulge in some camera equipment. I've had the Z7ii for about a year now, and I'm very happy with it except for one thing. The autofocus for stuff like birds in flight and moving critters. I feel a...
