Just purchased Z5 II with 24-200mm Lens for Alaska Cruise

You will not gain anything by switching to DX mode with a full frame lens. When you put the camera in DX mode it only uses around half the sensor and limits your images to about 12 MP. You can achieve the same thing by cropping a full frame image in post editing. You may find in post that you...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Went over to Cypress Gardens this morning. I was very disappointed that the field that was covered with dragonflies in late June, was completely devoid of them today. I halfheartedly took a few water lily and wood duck pictures, just because I was there. Got a chance to try my disposable rain...

Sticking zoom problem 200-500vr, was it resolved by Nikon?

I have owned the 200-500 F5.6 for several years now. I have found it to be a very good performer. I got mine to use on my new, at the time, Z5. There were no affordable long teles for the Z cameras at the time, so I got this lens and an adapter. It has seen quite a bit of use, and a little...

    SHUTTER COUNT

Here's a link to several methods. I tried the Photoshop view of exif data using one of your posted images. I couldn't find the shutter count, but it was a JPEG, and the link says it usually won't work with a JPEG. You might try it with a RAW file, if the other methods don't work. How to check...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

I think I may have a touch of Edward Weston syndrome. Although, it seems to involve dragonflies rather than peppers. And, of course, the results fall far short of Mr Weston.

    New to Panorama

Lightroom/Photoshop is very good. Unfortunately, it is available only by subscription, rent vs buy. The good news is that they are making constant upgrades to the programs and you get upgrades as soon as they are released. The remove tool with generative AI is absolutely amazing. Just paint the...

    New to Panorama

I hope you don't mind. I imported your posted image into Lightroom and gave it a quick edit. Here is what I came up with. Not saying it's the best edit, but just to give an idea. You will probably have more detail to work with using the original file, especially if you shot it in RAW.

    New to Panorama

The detail and color in the sky are nice. You might try masking the sky and increasing the warm yellows and oranges. Then copy and invert the mask and bring up the brightness in the rather dark foreground. I would like to see some more detail in the foliage, and the water.

Possible to use a Tokina 12-24 lens with a Nikon D4S?

Here is a guide to Nikon lens compatibility. Unfortunately, it doesn't cover 3rd party lenses like your Tokina, but it may be useful if you are looking to purchase some lenses for your D4s. Ken Rockwell

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Saw this little guy in my wildflower plot in the back yard this evening. Ran and got my camera, and was surprised he was still there, and let me get quite close to him. I've seen him out there before, so I'm thinking about naming him. Perhaps Hasenpfeffer, or maybe since I'm always photographing...

Possible to use a Tokina 12-24 lens with a Nikon D4S?

Not sure if the D4s does this, but all of the newer Nikon's "force" crop frame when a DX lens is mounted. IOW, the camera will only use about half of the sensor, since a DX lens does not normally cover all of a full frame sensor. And, it won't let you choose using the full frame, knowing you'll...

    Cropping feedback

Thanks to everyone for their input. I do enjoy getting different perspectives. In this case, I think I will go with my initial impressions, with my wife and the Pup's running a not so close second.

    D500 pixel density

The slight edge in detail may be a result of no low pass filter in the D7200 rather than pixel density. My understanding is that lack of a low pass filter will give a small increase in detail, but at the expense of an increase in moire.

I thought about moving the DF to the right and getting it on the righthand thirds line, but It really seemed out of balance to me.
