    Post your spiders

Re: spiders Perhaps Bukitimah frightened everyone off with the extreme quality of his photos but this thread deserves to be revigorated. Spiders are amongst the most feared creatures in the world and yet they are the most fascinating. They are incredibly ugly and yet beautiful at the same time...

    Jumping spider catches the fly

I opened the door of my camper van earlier today and found a small jumping spider hiding behind the door. It then suddenly leapt and caught a fly. .. 40mm, f/5.6, 1/125th sec, ISO 100

    Spider on my computer screen

Weather is rotten outside today so I settled for a day without taking any photos. A day to check through the nearly 4000 shots I've taken in the last 3 months. All of a sudden I saw this tiny spider trying to climb up my computer screen and had to get a photo. One more of many dozens I've...

    Anyone for Cricket?

I came across this little chap the other day and, to begin with, he turned his back every time I tried to get in front of him. Later, he didn't seem to mind and, finally, I twice found him floundering on his back. I ended up carrying him back to the grass. He was no more than 1 cm long. 40mm...

    Young Catfish

Anyone who has come across these creatures will know that the young congregate in "schools" which look like oil slicks on the water. I've always wanted to get a shot of this but never had the camera to do it. This is a group I came across in the port where I work, though they are now growing at...

    Mating

Flies are probably the most hated creatures on the planet after politicians and yet they make great subjects for photography, if you can get one to stay still long enough while you focus on it. This is a photo I took earlier today and shows two flies in the process of mating. It has been cropped...

    Monthly Assignment -August 1st-31st

My first entry for the monthly comp. "Solitude" D3100 40mm, f2.8, 1/6th sec, ISO 3200. No flash. PS: In spite of what the figures might suggest, this was actually hand-held! I had been taking shots of the moon earlier and still had the tripod attached so it helped to stabilise the camera...

    The Catch

"Come into my parlour" said the spider to the fly. "No need to worry, just look me in the eye I will look after you, there's no way you will die" 40mm, f/8, 1/250th sec, ISO 100

    The Catch

We all dream about taking the perfect picture, of being there just at the right moment to capture a dynamic event, or just have enough luck to include something significant in a photo. It rarely happens and, in a way, it is a good thing as it makes you appreciate those special moments when...

    Stormy Sunset

I straightened the image as suggested by Moab Man (it was 5 degrees out of line!) meaning that the top crop took place as well as taking out a bit of the tree. Makes for a much tighter photo. Thanks for your comments.

    Post your 'ALMOST' Photos..

Damselflies are amongst the most difficult insects to photograph. Sure, you can shoot them sitting on a leaf all day long if you wish but they won't move as long as you don't. Since they move at high speed and neve keep a straight course, it is extremely hard to take them in flight. I have tried...

    Insect photos with the D3100

I took a long walk (5 miles) along the canal bank this morning and in 3 hours took about 300 photos, mostly damselflies, butterflies and moths but, just as I was thinking that I hadn't seen any spiders, I was met with this incredible sight: A female wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi). Enjoy :)...

    Stormy Sunset

I wasn't sure if this would fit in with the rules for the August competition as it was at sunset. Weather was stormy giving beautiful colours. Other than cropping and resizing, this is as taken. D3100 40mm, f/10, 1/250th sec, ISO 800, AP mode. PS: Maybe I should send this to a "paint by...
