Turning BBF off on the D500

I got rather frustrated trying to figure out how to turn off BBF on my D500 as I wanted to switch to using the shutter actuation button to both focus and take the pics. I kept running into the issue of both the BBF button AND the shutter actuation button allowing the AF to work when either one...

    Post your Birds in Flight

Oh come on @wev - how did it end between the Red-Tailed Hawk and the nesting Coopers Hawk? Did the Red-Tailed Hawk fly off, or did the Coopers catch up with it?

    Post Your Birds (3)

Since the Post your birds (2) thread takes so long to load, let's try a new thread until we get a new server. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the slow loading issues with this thread. Once the new server is up and running, this thread can be merged with the former one. So please post your...

    Nikon NY Repair Center

After I finished taking test shots, I reset my camera settings back to where I usually keep them (f/7.1 and shutter speed of 1/2000") and placed the camera on the seat next to me. I barely made it out of the park when I saw a bird going after a Red-Tailed Hawk. So I quickly pulled over, grabbed...

Can you help ID this bird please?

When I was mowing near a bush, this little bird flew from the ground up to the fence. Later on it was back on the ground. Size-wise it is bigger than a sparrow but smaller than a robin. I'm guessing possibly a fledgling female cowbird? The first image isn't great by any means but was...

While I was at a different spot taking a photo of the flag hanging from the crane, an attendee expressed her frustration with the flag not getting blown into a nice position. And honestly I encountered that most times, too. So I felt lucky being in the right place at the right time for this...

And this is the Veteran who organizes the annual event. The man was quite willing to let me take his photo, but he is very serious about this event. Plus between bands, he gives information. After finishing this color image, I decided to play with it in The Nik Collection's Color Efex Pro to...

    'Best Prom in America'

Since this is the Off Topic forum for non-photography related discussions, here is a magical event that happens once each year. Many years ago Reader's Digest listed the Pennsbury Prom as being the Best Prom in America. It's held at the school each year, and it takes a village to make it happen...

Can you help ID this bird please?

I never saw the back or top of its head. It kept its eye on me the entire time by always facing me. Here is another pic which I lightened even more. Although it looks kind of buff-colored, it really was more greyish. I've seen people locally post images of catbirds so I know they are around -...

Can you help ID this bird please?

Definitely a lousy image - was only testing this lens due to issues with the AF. This was a new bird that I've never seen, and it gave off a chirp that was completely unrecognizable to anything I've ever heard. Any idea what it is? And what are the lines on the right side? Eye lashes? Whiskers?

    Nikon NY Repair Center

I went back out to test the sharpness of the AF - unfortunately these were all in very shaded areas so I hit my capped ISO limit and wound up having to increase my exposure during post. But the bird photo (which was by far the most underexposed image) still shows detail. So it seems the AF is...

Let me try.... It looks okay before submitting it. What problem do you encounter @Woodyg3 - is the site too slow and it times out? Or do you post and wind up with the dreaded attachment unavailable issue? Or something else? Please be specific so I can relay the info to jdeg. Have you tried...

I had hoped the vulture images were soft due to the lack of contrast, but after a prime photo opp of a Red-Tailed Hawk with a Blue Jay, absolutely everything turned out soft. So I'm going to have to contact Nikon again to see if they will take another look at this lens. I wound up...
