    Email notifications

Is anyone else experiencing issues with not receiving email notifications? I changed my email address and made sure nothing is getting caught at my online spam folder. Usually I receive notices for PM's, subscribed threads, and mentions. Just checking to see if it's only me or if it is more...

Dawg Pics Learns Wide Angle (Feel free to post images)

Glad you received your lens. One of the biggest differences with wide angle lenses when composing landscape/scenic images is to include some type of foreground interest. Examples can be leading lines, having the lens close to the ground to capture foreground flowers with a scene in the...

    Post your latest purchases.

I purchased a 3-stop ND filter made by Breakthrough Photography. It's the x2 version which is a little less expensive than the x4. Although I have a couple ND filters for 82mm (to go with a lens I no longer use), I don't want to use a step up ring. This way I can still use my lens hood and have...

Weekly Challenge Aug. 11 - 17: Night Time

Submission time is over. @nikonpup - you have 23 hours 20 minutes to add the date you took this photo to your post to be included as a finalist. Sorry, although I didn't make the rules, the date needs to be added in everyone's submission just as the camera model needs to be a Nikon to be...

    My Experiences not posting correctly

This is what I see under your Experience tab - I scrolled down to where it lists Activities. And this is with Chrome. Perhaps a corrupt cookie?

File sizes out of LR: D750 vs D7200

I have no clue but wonder if pixel density might play a factor. After just comparing NEF's from a D7200 vs a D750, the D750 file sizes are 6016x4016 while the D7200 sizes are 6000x4000. But that doesn't offer any insight. One thing I noticed is that not all NEF's from either camera...

So near and yet so far

I have sunflower seeds to put out at my squirrel feeder (WalMart). It keeps their food dry - and they quickly learned the lid is hinged. Giant Grocery Stores carry a 48 ounce bag of roasted unsalted peanuts in the shells for $5. Guess what little critters love them?! ;)...

    B&W Adjustment Layer

Here is a memorial bench image I edited earlier this year. My method below is based on Joel Grimes' - not the one described in the fstoppers article. First I made a duplicate layer in PCC then took it over to Camera RAW. I converted the image to B&W, then under the HSL tab, I lowered the...

    B&W Adjustment Layer

I haven't tried it yet for landscapes and don't have any portraits that would work for this particular style. Joel uses this technique for what he describes as gritty portraits. But I want to try Joel's style on a landscape - however, I'm not sure his editing style is quite the same as the one...

    B&W Adjustment Layer

Lately I've been watching some Joel Grimes' videos on portrait editing where he first adjusts a color layer then duplicates it, turns the duplicate into a B&W layer, adjusts the saturations of orange and yellow within the B&W layer, then changes the blend mode. The process adds contrast...

    Post your latest purchases.

Back in February 2012, I bought one that looks identical but is made by Amazon Basics. I purchased it for taking long night exposures of carnival rides. And while it worked somewhat okay, it definitely seemed to work better when standing in front of the camera rather than behind (which is where...

NOT for voting - but this personal watercraft gave me a chuckle. :beguiled:

    Post your Insect shots

Hornet or cicada killer? Not quite white stripes but not yellow either. More like cream or ivory. Definitely not a great image but literally was the only one that captured some detail. Obviously the 1.7x TC slows down the AF a lot and is part of the reason why I've been having trouble...

    hark 2021

I am still testing out my 300mm f/4 PF. However, this time I chose to use the shutter button for focusing and also set the body for AF-S instead of AF-C. This way the camera shouldn't take any out of focus images. Sure enough, everything was reasonably sharp. But I still notice the focus point...

    Post your Insect shots

Any idea what this is? I know I've photographed one previously but am not able to find it. Cropped quite a bit.

    hark 2021

I attended a historical reenactment today. Unfortunately it slipped my mind, and I didn't have a flash which would have helped with both images, plus I didn't have my 16-35mm with me. When taking portraits, I've heard how green grass can be reflected up onto people so it's a good idea to use...

Heads-Up: Upcoming down time for this forum

As many of you are aware, our Admin will be implementing a new server for Nikonites. When that happens, the forum will be down for an unknown amount of time. This could happen as early as within this next week but also possibly happen the following week or the week after that. No clue whether we...

    Charging Lithium Ion Batteries

I was surprised to hear some of this guy's thoughts (he holds an Electrical Engineer Degree) on charging lithium ion batteries. In a nutshell, these are what he feels are most important. 1. Remove batteries from flash/strobe when not in use. Sometimes current still flows and can drain the...
