Video: LR5 Beta Tutorial on new Healing and Cloning Tools

I wasn't familiar with Laura Shoe prior to this video. She does an excellent job IMHO of introducing the new healing and cloning tools in LR5. I especially appreciated the comparison to the content aware features in PS.

Cannon Overlooking Lisbon from Castelo de São Jorge (HDR)

I decided to try a HDR because the cannon was shaded by a tree and I wanted to include the texture from the barrel. This was a real challenging situation with the brightness of the panorama in the distance. I tried both HDR Efex and Photoshop CS6 and preferred the results from Photoshop.

    Nikon V1 & 18.5mm for Pano? YES!!!

It was raining on a recent visit to Porto, Portugal so I only brought my V1 when we visited the port wine tasting rooms. YUM! Oh, right photography. . . the section of Porto near the river is called Gaia. During a break in the rain, I took 4 images resulting in the pano below. I created the...

Catedral de la Santa Cruz y Santa Eulalia Cloister Fountain

Okay, yesterday was so much fun with the critique of my V1 image from Plaça de Ramon Berenguer El Gran, I thought we could try again! This image is from earlier the same day of a fountain in the cloister of the Barcelona Cathedral (Catedral de la Santa Cruz y Santa Eulalia). I captured the image...

Plaça de Ramon Berenguer El Gran

My wife actually first noticed the reflection caused by the statue lighting in the Plaça de Ramon Berenguer El Gran in Barcelona. I had my V1 with us and tried to capture it. My question for critique is whether the bottom part of the image is too busy and if I should crop? I left it in because I...

The 1 Nikkor 18.5 does the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria

I took the Nikon V1 and 1 Nikkor 18.5/f1.8 to the public market in Barcelona known as La Boqueria a couple weeks ago. All images were shot in RAW and post processed in LR4. The 18.5 is the "nifty fifty" equivalent for the Nikon 1 series and fast becoming a favorite lens.

    Train Failure in a Tunnel

My wife and I were recently in Palma de Mallorca and took the famous electric train to Sóller. As we were in the last downhill tunnel, one of the brakes seized. The conductor came through the cars and said that the repair would take 5-10 minutes but that the electricity would be out. The only...

    Stop Action Fountain in Lisbon

Not sure if this effect works or not and would appreciate feedback and opinions. I tried to use a fast shutter speed to capture individual water droplets on a fountain in Lisbon while blurring the background as much as possible.

    Douro Valley Panoramic

My wife and I made a day trip to the Douro Valley from Porto yesterday. The rain was moving into the valley. This is a 4 image pano made with Autopano Giga, saved as a TIFF, cropped in PS CS6 with color adjustment via Color Efex Pro, imported into LR4 and exported to resize, add frame and...

    Catedral De Palma (La Seu)

Another spot to add to your photography bucket list: Catedral de Santa María de Palma de Mallorca (La Seu). The light through the stain glass is awe inspiring. The sunlight is so bright that it creates patterns inside the cathedral. A few images from my wife and I today. The last is a HDR using...

Using LR to change color? YES!

I just watched a new episode of Julianne Kost's video blog on Adobe TV regarding controlling selective color change in Lightroom. WOW! I knew that what she demonstrates was possible but didn't have a good grasp. This video so clearly demonstrates the technique that I think it will change how I...

    Ponte Vecchio

Snowy and icy day here in Philly is a great time to go back and re-process old images. I went back and re-worked this image of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence (or Firenze as my Italian friends would say) made during a trip in 2009. I literally took this by hanging my camera out of a window in the...

    Initial Impressions: 1 NIKKOR 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens

I've only had the recently released 1 NIKKOR 6.7-13mm f/3.5-5.6 lens a couple days with just a little time to give it a detailed work out. First impressions are very, very good. I love wide angle perspective and until this lens was released, I was frustrated by my V1. Knowing my shooting style...

    Initial Impressions: 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8 Lens

I've only had the 1 NIKKOR 18.5mm f/1.8 lens a couple days with just a little time to give it a detailed work out. First impressions are that this easily rivals my SLR 50mm AF-D prime. Bokeh is not quite as smooth, but focus (on my V1) is quick, no hunting, etc. This lens does not have an unlock...

    La Alhambra y El Generalife

Pretty recognizable scene from the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. My question and reason for posting is to start a dialog on composition. What do you do when you are surrounded by 4 walls? Go abstract? EXIF: D300, Sigma 10-20 @ 10mm, ISO 200, f/8.0, 1/250
