    My lovely wife

I tweaked the luminosity curves a bit... It's Monday.

    Sooo, which 70-200 2.8?

Shot just now, 100% crop of 70-200 at full zoom, wide open, handheld.

    Sooo, which 70-200 2.8?

Here's another just shot this weekend. Too much shine on the forehead because my speedlight was bounced off a low ceiling. This was truly a snapshot, because she was sitting on the sofa as I was walking through the house to shoot something else. This is also cropped down to 3k x 2k pixels out...

    Six lenses at 50mm compared.

The rain shot down my tennis match, so nothing to do tonight but mount the D600 on a tripod and shoot six different lenses at the same subject, all shooting at 50mm/5.6 with an SB-700 set to manual, so there should be no difference in exposure time, f-stop, or flash amount. These are crops from...

    Post your fisheye images

Samyang 14mm. Not a fisheye, but pretty wide. Corolla Beach Lighthouse, Outer Banks, NC.

    Post your D600/D610 photos

These two are from a Speedlight class in Raleigh this weekend. I like them because the flash is very subtle, even though she would be totally dark without it. Also, it was great to work with a model who would pose for us for a long time, patiently, giving us plenty of time to adjust settings.

    Post Your Infrared Shots

This was old school infrared film, left in my camera from some other project, and I had to mail it off to Johns Hopkins Hospital to get developed. No filter. This was scanned in from a slide, which just goes to show you we've been dealing with "sensor dust" in many different ways since the...

Too many choices!!! Help with new telephoto selection, please.

Okay, here's the payoff. As stated in my original post, the problem and search for a solution started when my wife's orchestra was playing in a fairly bright church, which had daylight coming in through clear windows, but I had problems getting sharp handheld shots. Thus my search for VR and...

105mm FX shoot out. What do you think?

The size of these 100% crops do not encompass the same amount of image because of slight variables in each lens, plus the zooms weren't exactly on 105mm. All pretty close for online use, but I have to give the edge to the 105mm 2.5 manual lens for IQ, but the regular 105mm 2.8 prime for ease of...

Bride and Groom shots, really on the wedding day?

Do any of you wedding togs take pictures of the groom and bride - in her wedding gown - before or after the actual wedding day? Some of these wedding videos (like the Jerry Ghionis videos from BH Photo) show pics of brides and grooms that are very complex (in a rowboat?), so I don't see how...

Too many choices!!! Help with new telephoto selection, please.

I have reviewed the threads here, and they create more questions and uncertainty. On Sunday afternoon, I was shooting in a church with sunlight coming through the windows. My wife's orchestra was performing and she wanted some shots of her and others taken during the performance (so no flash)...

105mm FX shoot out. What do you think?

Four shots from four different lenses: two primes and two zooms. In no particular order, they are Nikon 28-105mm 3.5-4.5D AF (paid $120 used) Nikon 105mm 2.8 G ED AF-S VR (paid $500 used) Nikon 105mm 2.5 (old manual lens, paid $75 used) Sigma 70-300mm 4-5.6 AF (bought new, right now about...

    Post Your Infrared Shots

Red and blue channels swapped in PS, but that's about all. Nikon D40x converted by Life Pixel with their Super Blue filter.

    Pets/"Petography" Thread!

There are some terrific shots in this thread so far. Keep it up. A friend's pooch... Our dirty dirty dog, Aldo... Those are not D600 dust spots all over his face, it's real dirt that he gets all over himself every day, right before he comes back in the house.

Prime vs zoom - which ones give better IQ

I am biased towards primes ever since 1981 when I traded in a new Minolta zoom for a Minolta 105mm prime. The trade was because my photos were coming out a little blurry. The 105 seemed to fix that. Now I have a D600, and for nostalgia I bought an old used Nikon 105mm 2.5 lens for $75.00. You...

It's not just the D600s with dust.

Ever since the D600 became notorious for dust/oil on the sensor, I've started noticing those spots in many other photographs, especially blue sky shots. Here's a pic my friend posted of himself skydiving. I don't know what the camera was, but this pic was made before the D600 ever came out...
