Serious light leak on the D7100

Hi all, was out with my ND10 doing some long exposures and got this purple band through the middle of all the images. I know that this is light leak from not covering the viewfinder (I found that I didn't need to on my old D7000) so I didn't bother on my D7100, big mistake. I've got about 30...

Strange aspect ratio on D7100 photos?

@480sparky spot on thanks, it was in movie mode but you can still take still pictures but they come out in the 16:9 ratio. I was focusing in the dark using zoomed in liveview and must have fired off a few shots.

Strange aspect ratio on D7100 photos?

Okay I was out shooting the moon late a couple of days ago and am now only putting the files through LR. The normal ratio is 6000x4000 but the camera changed to 6000x3368 then back to 6000x4000 for one shot then back to 6000x3368 for ten shots and it is now back to 6000x4000. The dx1.3 crop mode...

Steel Wool Lightpainting - Soooo cool!

10 Gauge Thanks @Pretzel Correct. Hoodies to help stop hair burning and the gloves are more to prevent blisters from the spinning of the chain, which I found out the hard way :-( Use a 9v battery to light the wool as it's easier in the wind than a lighter. Don't keep both in same pocket or bag...

    EXIF data from 1977

A good keepsake. My Dad has been scanning in his slides over the winter and he brought down the digital copies when he came down in Easter. Here's some of his Exif data from 1978.

    Post your sun/sunshine pictures.

No ND's and no Badar film just used some local sea mist to shot through and get some Sun spots on the big bright ball

    Is "Banding" A Real Issue?

Is this the banding issues that you are talking about? f2.8, 10secs, ISO 400. This photo stax was the second shoot. I was aiming the other way for the main pass over (ISS) and didn't change any setting when I turned around to get the last of the pass over. The image was really under exposed...

    Name the Heavenly Bodies

Just showed the 2nd photo to my 7 year old daughter and she read the question and immediately said "That's an Iridium flare Daddy" ;) Mind you she has seen lots of them from my back garden. You can take multiple exposures and stack them in StarStax to get the whole flare. My phone is set to...

    ND filter kit

I bought a Cokin set of slot in ND filters and the colour cast was awful. Before going down the expensive road, I bought a cheap £10 CAMDIOX ND1000 72mm off Ebay. It's great, no colour cast what so ever. At this price it is affordable to buy filters for each size lens to avoid using step down...

    Eclipse for some of us

@paul04 @wornish You can buy very cheap welding glass off ebay Welding Lens Lense Glass Helmet Filter all shades or clear 41/4 x 31/4 | eBay. £1 with free postage. But most welding glass will give you a horrible green tint. Photo as shot showing the green colour cast. Fixable in post, but...

    Eclipse for some of us

An ND10 will not even cut it if the sun is behind light cloud as I found out whilst practicing the other day, but a did get some good shots of cloud iridescence. Edit, just noticed the wide aperture so will be going with a smaller aperture on the next practice. The eclipse will only reach...

Internatiional Space Station and an Iridium Flare in one capture.

Thanks for the comments @paul04 and @480sparky, do you think it is worthy of sending in to EPOD?

Internatiional Space Station and an Iridium Flare in one capture.

Went down the local river last night with the plan to get a long exposure of the Space Station pass over and an Iridium Flare in the same shot. I was hoping to get the ISS coming over the horizon but someone was Lamping across the river ( blue light lower right) and kept shining the light...

    D7100 and Liveview moon problem...

@wornish I was using Matrix same as on the D7000. I could try Spot but I still don't think this will make a difference on the Live View screen.

    D7100 and Liveview moon problem...

Scott Murray It depends on which Nikon model camera you have apparently. Some show the stopped down aperture in Live View and some show the full open aperture preview. It was fine on my D7000 but like I said just a white blob on the D7100. I have been searching and this is a common issue on...

A black & white drive through the countryside

Spot on Jake, we just use different words over this side of the pond. My then 6 year old daughter had just made it to the top of a 300ft dune ready for another sledging/toboggan run. @480sparky hope you don't mind me adding a photo into your thread but just wanted to show you a UK sledge :-)
