Thanks. I was hoping for something from either the front or the side, but the year is still young. I hadn't had any chances for any airborne duck shots all morning. I was walking the trail back to the parking lot when a pair of woodies around the corner spooked. I just had time to throw the...

Went over to Cypress Gardens this morning to check out what the wood ducks were doing. I'm going to try hard and get some good ducks in flight images this year. This is my first attempt. Not the best, but it's a start. I did get a decent shot of one in the trees. And this yellow rumped...

Tried my hand at some soap bubble macro. Not as easy as it looks. I need to change my lighting setup and work on DOF.

Great shot. You are able to shoot this in full sun with an extra stop of exposure compensation and yet no blown highlights? I usually have to underexpose birds with white feathers at least one stop, sometimes as much as 2.5 stops.

Use full all the time. The only reason to use infinity to .2M is if you are using AF, have a distance to subject of more than .2M, and are having trouble with the system "hunting" and going from infinity to minimum (.163M) back and forth. I doubt the focus limiter will affect manual focus, but I...

My experience was that neither the Z5 or Zii was decent with AF on BIF.

I have no idea whether the focus limit switch does anything when you are in manual focus mode (I suspect not), but I would advise to keep it at full. I usually switch to birds in the winter, but there are still lots of subjects to be had in the winter. I've seen some stunning shots of frost on...

The focus limiting is to keep the lens from "hunting" the full length of focus while in AF. Set it to full. Focus stacking relies on a number of different images taken of the same subject while progressively advancing the focus point with overlapping depth of field. You then take the images and...

I haven't really tried much macro with the D3400, but my experience with other cameras leads me to believe that using AF with a static subject like mushrooms is doable. The main issue, IMO, is it may difficult to get focus where you want it. You can use a single point focus mode and move that...

As BF Hammer said, it is basically a focusing aid. It's much easier to see if an area is in focus when it is magnified. As you discovered, It doesn't change the magnification of the final image, only what you see on the backscreen. Another thing I frequently do is to look at the image after...

I would recommend that once you compose, use the magnification button on the left side of the backscreen to enlarge the image. It's the button with a magnifying glass symbol and a + sign in the middle. Be aware that there will be a delay on shutter release when using LV on the D3400. I believe...

Not sure. I rarely tracked people.

Some great images.

You can have my Z8 when you pry it from my cold dead hands! ;)

A little slow on the longer end of the zoom.

Here are a few more.

I've been through several of the Z bodies, so here's my take on the ones I have experience with. The Z5 is a great entry level full frame. It is inexpensive (relatively) and is a solid performer. AF is lacking for moving wildlife. The Z5ii is probably much better at AF with the Expeed 7...
