    Should I replace my tripod?

Well, until recently, it was occasional use. Since I got the long tele and a gimbal head, I use it a lot. I think I may have talked myself into one. I really like the looks of that Benro. I think the biggest problem is that I hate to replace something that is still working, unless it is a...

    Should I replace my tripod?

Not sure I could find the tripod I want used. I checked out KEH and B&H, and nothing popped up that looked likely. There were a couple that I could have lived with, but not what I really wanted. Local pawn shops likely to only have Wally World specials that are beat up and priced near new retail.

    Should I replace my tripod?

Yes, I looked at the Benro online as a possibility if I decide to upgrade. I agree that I like twist locks better. The levers are prone to damage, although at my age I don't need to look much past 15 years of use. I also prefer 3 section. They are longer, but are quicker to deploy vs 4 section...

    Should I replace my tripod?

Yes, I can get repair parts. They are either used, or NOS, and the critical component is plastic. It would cost over$100 to replace all 6 levers. Not worth it. The repairs I made are working just fine, and I don't anticipate a sudden failure, I can lock or unlock the segment with an 8mm socket...

    Should I replace my tripod?

I have an older Bogen (pronounced Manfrotto) 3021 tripod. It has been a great tripod with a lot of great features. It still performs well, but it showing it's age, as am I. The biggest issue is the plastic locking levers on the legs have all broken. I cleaned the remnants of them up and epoxied...

    Post Processing for Z9

Yes, you do tend to loose some detail when you de-noise.

    Post Processing for Z9

Needa, I edited that photo using masking to control two different areas get noise reduction individually. I choose object mask and painted the two spoonbills. This clearly identified the two birds. I find subject mask often includes extraneous items. I then clicked on more options for this mask...

    Post Processing for Z9

Well, I can't help the OP, but want to thank everyone for the discussion of noise reduction. I normally shoot at lower ASA settings, and don't often have noise issues. I shot some early morning wildlife pictures yesterday and some of them were noisy. I had completely forgotten about the noise...

    Post your Birds in Flight

Badly backlit which required a lot of post processing. The underside of the bird was too underexposed to get much detail, without a ton of noise. Still, I don't get a chance to get a shot of an eagle in flight every day.

    I'm not a morning person

Well, I really enjoyed the outing. Really glad I had a glove in my jacket pocket. My shooting hand got numb even with the glove on. I'm not sure I got any really good shots, although I got a bunch of decent ones. There were a pair of eagles there, I got some long shots. I also got a couple of...

    I'm not a morning person

Decided to take advantage of the expanded hours for members they run twice a month at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens this morning. It's just after 5:30 in the morning and I have worked the evening shift most of my life, so this isn't what I'm used to doing this time of day. Anyway, I'll take a...

    Raw photo viewer

Windows Photo Viewer on my Windows 10 machine will display NEF files, I seem to remember that it also worked on my Windows 11 system. You may need to download a codec for it.

    ML Z + long lens + gimbal

OK, the Pup and I went by Magnolia Plantation and Gardens today. We got our annual membership cards. This will entitle us to go on their early opening days. They have one Monday, and I'm going to try and make it. They open at 7:00 which is about 20 minutes before actual sunrise. I was surprised...

    ML Z + long lens + gimbal

Well, the Pup and I were going to go to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens today. She bailed, so I went back to Cypress Gardens. I got a few long distance pics of the wood ducks. You have to be extremely careful not to spook them. I was trying to sneak up on an opening in the brush to get some...

    ML Z + long lens + gimbal

Well, Blackstar, my experience has been that I do better with the single point focus area, and single. If I'm dealing with moving items, I switch to auto. I don't like auto for most situations, because it will often grab the wrong point to focus. The down side to single point, is that I...

    ML Z + long lens + gimbal

It's the 200-500 F5.6 Nikon with an FTZ adapter to the Z5. I had it in AF-S single point. That's what I use for most of my shooting, unless it's a fast moving item or animal.
