    Splooting squirrel

While not a rare activity among tree rats, I have a squirrel in my backyard that seems to sploot all the time. This is the first time I've managed to catch him on camera. Most of the time I see him through the back door. I happened to be outside today trying to get some bird pics, and saw him...

    Back to the future.

Well, I only did a quick search, as I'm not planning on getting back into film shooting. Still, since it is more of a niche now, I'm sure it's more expensive, inflation adjusted, than it was a couple decades ago. Of course, the cheap way to go is to process and scan the negatives. Still, it's an...

Weekly Challenge June 28th - July 4th “NORTHERN SUMMER, SOUTHERN WINTER”

Maybe it could be stipulated that folks living south of the equator can post winter photos for summer. I'm cool with that (pun intended).

    Back to the future.

There was no taking several hundred images on a casual outing with film. I spent a couple hours at the Audubon Swamp yesterday and took several hundred pictures. Back in the day, between film and processing it was at least $30 a hundred for color film and processing IIRC. I just looked on Amazon...

Let's be careful out there folks

Well, even when wearing my new snake proof boots, it's still a good idea to pay attention to where you step. I ran into this little guy this morning while out shooting. Yes, it's not a poisonous variety, but it was a good reminder. I copperhead would have been very difficult to spot in this leaf...

    Battery question

Before you spend money on new batteries, check your camera for energy draining modes. Things like Bluetooth and wifi will drain the battery much quicker and can be turned on and off. You may have already checked this out, but thought I would bring it up.

    Hi from Belgium

Welcome. The bird photography can get a little addictive. I recently got back into photography, and got a long tele last year. Now it seems that birds are almost the only thing I ever take pictures of.

    Back to the future.

I shot film for many, many years. I understand the appeal, but doubt I will ever shoot another roll of film myself, unless it's helping my niece using my dad's old Rollie TLR.

We have a local raptor rescue center that has demonstration/teaching activities a couple times a week. They also have a monthly photography day. Yes, some may feel like it's cheating, but I look on it as a great way to get some good close up images of raptors.

    Nikon d3400 black screen help!

I don't think they have that feature on the D3400. I quickly looked through the menus and didn't see anything about disabling the monitor. I also didn't see any buttons or dials that would turn off the monitor. I believe that is only on the mirrorless cameras. The only other thing that comes...

    Let's see some reptiles...

Yeah, I was walking along the path and saw this little guy soaking up some sun. I stopped and grabbed a quick insurance shot, but before I could change position to try and get a clearer shot, he decided to hit the water. I tried to clean it up in PS, it was going well until I got to the eye. I...

    Nikon d3400 black screen help!

I would first remove the battery, then hit the shutter button and hold it down a few seconds. Reinsert the battery and see if the monitor comes back on. The next would be to reset all functions. If that doesn't work I guess the next step is to call Nikon customer service. Good luck.
