Interesting concept which has been tried before (JPEG2000, JPEG-XR, WebP). The examples on the home page appear to be pretty good. I tried it on one image - see below. Original JPEG as output from Lightroom (179,238 bytes) JPEGmini online conversion (118,539 bytes)

Pretty interesting article that discusses things to consider when trying to choose between Lightroom and Photoshop. I think most of the same comments apply when trying to choose between Aperture and Photoshop as well.
