    Cause(s) of soft images

It looks to me like the branch behind the bird is sharp. That would indicate a focusing issue. I believe the Z6 has a menu option for dialing in focus for your individual lens. I have heard this is more often needed on 3rd market lenses. You might want to enlarge the original full size image and...

    Post Your Birds (3)

One of the anhingas caught a fish that was almost too big to swallow. He finally managed it. Unfortunately, the sun came out and was directly behind him. Backlit with a black bird is not a good combo. These were taken the same time frame, with different exposures to try and find a happy medium...

    Post Your Birds (3)

Made a trip out to the Audubon Swamp attached to Magnolia Plantation. They have done some work dredging the swamp, and clearing debris. I haven't visited it in years. Got a couple snaps of this guy. Also saw some ducks, anhingas and gators, Oh my. I went ahead and signed the release agreement...

    Post your latest purchases.

I've had one experience with the the Nikon store. I received a defective lens. I had some trouble with conflicting information on return and reorder, but in the end they made it good.

You can easily resize your posted image.

I believe the option to click on and enlarge is only available when the size of the image is greater than 1000. If you pull up the EXIF data on posted pictures the ones that you can enlarge are all over 1000, the ones that you can't are under. If the picture of the sky with the wolf is the one...

Hi from the North East of the UK

Well, you won't see any pictures of the UK from me. My traveling days were a good while back. I flew as a loadmaster on cargo aircraft in the AF reserves. Made lots of trips to Mildenhall, although usually it was just overnight. Lots of memories. I have a Smokehouse Inn sticker around somewhere.

Hi from the North East of the UK

Welcome. We seem to be getting a fair number of folks from across the pond. Glad to have you onboard. I always enjoyed my brief visits to the UK. I have fond memories of staying at the Smokehouse inn at Mildenhall.

    Should I replace my tripod?

After doing a little research, I will try highlight metering mode next time I go out to shoot birds. Looks interesting, and may give me better exposures on the fly. Some of the situations have rapidly changing lighting situations as the bird flies. Yes, post processing can usually overcome a...

    Should I replace my tripod?

I'm using aperture priority mode for exposure and manually choosing the ASA. I keep an eye on the shutter speeds and adjust as necessary. I've been trying to keep my shutter speeds at or above 1/1000 sec. That may not be fast enough for stopping some of the wing motion. Of course, I was hoping...

    Should I replace my tripod?

Well, the Pup and I made it to the Center today. Full sun, which is not as good as overcast. The tripod worked well. The main issue I had was sitting down while taking pictures. Next time I should put the tripod up nearly full height, and move off to the side of the "bleachers". It was too...

    Z 800mm f/6.3

I would love to have a native mount long lens for my Z5. Unfortunately, those are a little rich for my blood. I had to settle for the 200-500 F mount and an FTZ adapter. I'm impressed with the performance of the 200-500, although I do wonder what one of the newer Z mount long teles is capable of.

    Should I replace my tripod?

And here is the tripod fully extended. If you notice, it even has a hook to hang a weight on the bottom of the center post, to increase stability. The legs are a larger diameter than the Bogen 3021 it is replacing, and has over twice the weight capacity. The twist locks are much quicker and...
