    DX mode change

Welcome. Check page 74 in the online manual. It looks like you can either manually select, or put it in auto, and it will automatically go into the correct mode depending on the lens that is attached. D810 online manual

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

I just wish they would let me get close enough to fill the frame. The least little movement or noise and they are squawking and flying. I would like to get something like this, only with a male wood duck in breeding plumage. I took this one last year at another swamp. Wasn't really happy about...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Decided on another trip to Cypress Gardens today. Wow, lots more wood ducks. They were everywhere. They were skiddish! Still. I did get a chance to snap a few. None were very close, and I had to crop them fairly heavily. I guess this is why they call them "wood ducks". I got pretty...

Have you tried removing the card from the camera and using a card reader to transfer files to your PC?

    Post Your Birds (3)

White egrets can be difficult to get detail in with either harsh light, or backlight. Got this guy early in the morning with a backlit scene.

    Needa's Abysmal Attempts!

The dove and the mocking bird. OK, it looks like a mocking bird in B&W.

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

Well, I sent them a description of the issue, and the sample photo. I'll report back with what they say. I hope I can fix this. I really like Topaz, but find the artifacts rather annoying.

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

Thanks, Fred. I read the first article that popped up. It was from Apr of last year. The representative from Topaz said they were working on it and hoped to have a fix by the end of the quarter. The work around they suggested did not work for me. This was to convert it to another...

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

It's an HP with an I7 processor and 16 gigs of RAM. I've been updating it regularly, so I'm sure it's the latest version. I was loading the latest update tonight, and had some issues, so I uninstalled it and am reloading it right now. What's the issue with the known problem. Is that a bug they...

Anyone having trouble with checkerboard artifacts in the backgrounds with Topaz AI?

Since I started using Topaz AI, as opposed to using the separate programs, I've occasionally noticed these weird artifacts in the backgrounds. They are most notable in dark backgrounds that are then lightened in LR. The artifacts are visible in the output file from Topaz. Here is a recent...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Well, I made a spur of the moment trip back over the Cypress today to see if the bugs were starting to get active. They weren't. I went ahead and switched to the long tele and walked the perimeter of the swamp. Some of the birds and a turtle were cooperative(ish). These guys weren't as...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Well, that was the pick of the litter from about 6 trips down to the beach, and that particular trip, the gnats were absolutely vicious. We only stayed about 45 minutes then turned tail and ran. That tree from that angle was the one that keep me going back again and again. Don't think it has...

No, I don't mind at all. One of the major draws to the forum is learning. We may have different visions of what the final product should be, but by looking at something from a different perspective, it often helps to clarify what we are after. Often it leads down a path one, or both of us hadn't...

Just for context, this is what we normally get at this location when we have access to getting onto the beach itself. Taken last year in close to the same spot, this is a different tree in the surf, although from close up, rather than several hundred yards away, across the marsh. The landscape...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

I don't think I can remove both and still have either enough resolution left, or fit everything in while excluding both of those things. I already had to crop down the original image, somewhat, to level up the horizon. Here is a fairly radical crop, putting the horizon on the bottom third...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Well, aforementioned trip was a big disappointment. Extremely high tide kept us from the beach. I saw a break in the tree line that gave a look at the surf. Wind was whipping, and blowing the spray behind the waves. Looked really interesting. I set up the tripod and tried getting some images of...

    Weekly Photo Challenge Feb 7th - 13th "@ F-8"

I didn't set out to take this one to qualify for the challenge, but I thought I had my camera set to F8 this morning. Checked the EXIF data and it turns out I was correct. Not a very successful outing. Got up at 4:00 and drove an hour and a quarter, braved the cold and wind, only to have an...

    d3300 flash problems

The first thing that came to my mind is that you are using it to shoot pictures of a roller derby. How far are you from the subject? If the distance is too great, there may not be enough light bouncing back to the flash for it to recognize. Have you tried the same setup at a fairly close...

Since there were so few entries in the "Sidewalk" challenge, I decided to take a few pictures of some sidewalk art the next house over. The images weren't as interesting to me as I had envisioned (imagine that!), but I decided to post one anyway to help out the challenge. After posting it I got...
