    Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

If I go out to the beach here in July, I'd have to bring a baseball bat to keep the mosquitoes and gnats from making off with my gear. Seriously, I found the exercise interesting, but I think I'll stick with macro and birds. If I didn't have to drive an hour to the beach and then hike a mile or...

    Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

No. I was pretty busy slapping the gnats, helping my daughter, and trying to figure out the basics to do an HDR. I should have. Is that what would have given me a clear image of the milky way?

    Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

Well, I just got back from the milky way outing with the CNPA. I was rather disappointed with the milky way I got. Not terribly obvious. I think I got the comet, though. I was using a 24mm focal length so it's not terribly large. Look in the lower right hand section.

Well, it's not called "people on the street" photography.

The Pup and I got up early and headed up the road to Swan Lake. Didn't do as well as when we went in the spring. Here's a few.

    Autofocus area question

I got mine from my dad. When I was a kid, I liked to go watch him develop film and prints in the darkroom he had set up in his shop. After I got married, I got the bug and set up my own darkroom. Now my daughter and I go on photo outings.

    Autofocus area question

I guess I'm too old school. I started off with a Argus C4, rangefinder camera. Not that I want to go back to the manual everything, film days.

    Autofocus area question

Well, I went out back this afternoon and set up my camera bag as a target and tried several different modes. I think I may need to switch to continuous mode more often. It seems to work well enough on absolutely stationary subjects.

It's GOOD to be back! Birding tele suggestions?

If I were buying for my Z right now, I would likely spend the extra and get the Z 180-600. Don't get me wrong, the 200-500 is a great lens, especially at it's price point. The Z lenses I have are definitely a cut above IMO.

    Autofocus area question

When I got my Z7ii earlier this year I noticed I was having issues with soft images with a number of different AF area settings. I found that single point gave me good results, and I have been using that for almost all my shooting. When I'm not shooting macro, I use my 200-500 with an FTZ...

My D3400 looks dark and takes dark pictures with 300mm lens

Try setting your aperture to it maximum aperture. Turn off the camera and take the lens off. Look through the lens and see if the aperture is small, or if it is wide open. If it is small, then the aperture mechanism isn't working properly. It could either be an internal fault in the lens, or...

    D3100 for $125?

You could probably make do with a 14 MP camera. That is especially true if you are primarily posting on social media. Having said that, I'm sure you will be happier with a 24 MP camera. If nothing else, it makes cropping much easier. I have found the AF-P 18-55G VR to be a surprisingly good...

Blank Monitor in manual mode Z8

You mentioned using the flash. Does it work properly when you are not using the flash, and adjusting the exposure to the correct exposure for available light? If so, the issue may be the flash. There could be a problem with the communication between the flash and the camera. If the camera...

    Clovis' Nikon Nuggets

Went out late this afternoon to shoot a fountain long exposure at a local park. Discovered they had a Halloween festival going on. Went to another local park nearby since I was out. The light was almost gone, but I had my tripod with me. I had trouble deciding between color and B&W. I should...
