A Great Egret at a local pond a couple of days ago took to the air for several feet and pounced on a fish. That's not their normal strategy, but it worked just fine. I was glad to see this bird finally catch a fish, since a couple of Great Blue Herons in the same pond were catching them left...

We're having a terrible drought in Colorado right now, but it's raining and snow is supposed to be on the way overnight. Like any little kid, this gosling loves to walk through the puddles.

This was almost three weeks ago and the babies had not yet ventured out of the nest. The male had delivered some food and was perched on the edge of the nest while the female and one of the babies can be seen in the cavity looking at him.
